GSX Drive-terian problems?

i heard that the drive-terian is easy to break if you put more than 300hp on the car, if that is true is there an easy way to fix it?

You can break it at stock power levels if you wheelhop and do stupid ricer stunts, or you can make 600 whp and not break. Its not something you can so easily generalize. There are parts that can be reincforced from the start to save some aggrevation though. Most necessary is the center diff. SpeedDesign makes the infamous 4 spider gear center diff. Some very fast guys run this piece, they are nearly unbreakable. If the car is an early 1g with a 3 bolt rear, upgrade that to the stronger 4 bolt rear (stronger axles). 2 DSMs have run 8s on the AWD drivetrain, just with these simple mods. For example, my car uses all stock mitsu parts, but mixed and matched from different years to get teh strongest of everything. 91 intermediate shaft, 93 3-4th gearset/bub/slider, SD center diff, etc.

Most people get well into the 11s before the drivetrain becomes an issue, if they have the 4 bolt rear, SD center diff, and drive with common sense.

You just have to find where the weaknesses are and upgrade them before something breaks. You'll probably run into more serious problems before you'll have to worry about the drivetrain.

WTF?? wheelhop?

I'm not sure what the question is, but it must be either what is it, or do AWDs get it. Its when you are on the verge of traction/no traction, and it cycles beteen the two. The wheel "hops" like mad. The loading/unloading effect will destroy the driveline parts in the same way air chisels, jackhammers, etc, do thier destruction. You are better off spinning like crazy than being on the brink of traction and wheelhopping. AWD cars will get wheelhop. And its ugly. I've had it front and back. I think its usually in the back though. Solid motor mounts did wonders, as did the suspension upgrades I made. I never see wheelhop anymore. But then again with the power I launch with, I end up spinning all 4 and leaving the line sideways. Sounds harsh but its actually very easy on the drivetrain compared to a more gentle launch with wheelhop...

Hope something in there answers your question. If not, just be a little more specific. :)

Yes, I am aware of this. Thank you.

Wheelhop osnt something you "do" so to speak. Its something that happens when you are trying to launch. If you get wheelhop you will know it. You'll feel it and hear it.

I get wheel hop on the ice a lot. In lower traction situations the verge of on-off is less harsh, and most of my friends don't know when it's happening.. or maybe they just haven't tried.

Anyway point is, it ruins my drifty ice turns, but I seem to be the local master of snowy drifts. My secret is low-revolution wheelspin, not flooring it: once you spin the tires like 10 times faster than your fronts, you have no conrol over the car's rotation.

I got off track, but yeah wheel hop isn't good, and you certainly wouldn't want to 'try' doing it
