This maybe a stupid question....

Before i buy a Eclipse, i need to know is the 1997 GS AWD or FWD, and is it a good car to buy? I am a first time buyer of an eclipse so plz help.

1997 GS is an FWD car.... and gs is a non turbo car with 140 horse power... it is a good car... if u maintain it properly u wont have much trouble... :D

the gsx is the strongest and the only awd, its also a turbo and just like with the gs if you maintain it right you shouldn't have to many problems. and cost just depends on milage, location, modifications and such . just look around try www.autotrader.com , www.dsmtrader.com , www.ebaymotors.com still just depends on what you want to do with it and such

i wanted to buy a nice quick eclipse that i could modify a little bit to compete with the "american cars" at the local race track, i need to take care of some camaros and stangs

1997 eclipse GSX is the powerfull one... it is turbo charged all wheel drive... with 210 horsepower... for a 1997 gsx the price might be anywhere between 7000 - 13000 dollars depending upon the condition and aslo the mods done by the previous owner... just like the anarchy111 said.. wat do u need a car for??? show ? race? daily driver? or delivary boy ( me :D )??? tell us wat u want to do with ur car and also how much money u can afford???

i dont really have to have a 97, i will take older, i want a GSX that will fit in my price range of 6000-8000 that is in fairly good condtion

ya for that price u surely can find a gsx.. and if u have a gsx.. u need to spend around 1300-2000 dollars in mods and u can run 12 seconds... this is wat i heard... :D

check around for the best prices. look for one locally in the papers and auto dealers and then also check around on places like www.autotrader.com , www.dsmtrader.com ,www.ebaymotors.com . i'm sure if you look around hard enough you'll find one for that price but it depends on stuff like milage , ect.

i also heard that the AWD models have a Drive-terian problems with too much power is that true and is it easily fixed?

gsx and gst have the same engine 4g63 and they both are turbo charged cars with 210hp.... but gst is a front wheel drive and gsx is an all wheel drive...

its a turbo fwd....nothin to special

gat a talon tsi awd. its the same car and its alot cheaper for whatever reason. i bought a mint condition 95tsi awd for under $2k. it had only 83k on the odo. too. a dsm is a dsm is a dsm...........Right?

YEAH BUT I CANT FIND VISUAL UPGRADES FOR AN EAGLE.

1st: You don't need AWD for visual upgrades
2nd: you can do every visual upgrade to a talon same as eclipse. nice caps

if you really want to do it right get a 95 gsx because they have EPROM ecu's that are DSMLink friendly [that is a very powerful datalogger/fuel tuning tool like the SAFC but 1000 times better]

GST's are stupid, the whole point of the DSM (to me is) its cheap, cheap to mod, n all wheel drive. If you want a cheap fwd car, Integra will be a nice choice (my guess at this point).

aww, come on now... get a LSD and gs-t's are still fast as hell... and can't you replace the whole 3rd door [hatch] from a junkyard eclipse? i wouldn't think it would be all that difficult [i don't like it either]

check the site. DSMLink only works with EPROM ecu's that are only found on 95 models :(

my talon tsi has e prom, its a 95 and it has a very nice spoiler it has the turbo spoiler not the one that goes around the whole car. also as far as visual upgrades go, you need to do a tailight conversion if you want the largest selection of body kits to use. but they do make some for talons..really, they so. and also the eclipse and talons share the the same headlights untill 97 when the eclipse used a slightley different shape lamp, and front bumper, keep that in mind when body kit shopping.
