I've heard that with a cool air intake it really doesnt matter what brand of piping you use it more the filter. So for example if i were to get a cai off ebay (no brand) and put a k&n filter it would be the same as an aem or close to it.

Thanks

well aem intakes are tuned for the correct bends and sizes to maximize performance gains, the way the intake is built affects the performance alot more than a filter.

you will get a gain from an ebay intake, but not as much as a tuned variant made specifically for your car.

Actually that might not be true, because as much as the filter helps, the intake tube helps make power also. Usually reputable companies would make tubes that give the most power for each application through heavy R&D testing, so a good tube would locate the filter away from the engine where air is cooler (the colder air it draws, the denser the air; dense air = more power :)), and some power will also be gained by better flow-bench numbers (a flow-bench measures how easily air travels through tube, hole etc.). I hope this helps you, and don't settle for the cheap imitations because you get what you pay for, especially if you want the highest power gains possible. :)

ummm... I think the CARB sticker that comes with the AEM CAI matters, other then that the no names might not fit as well.

other than the C.A.R.B. number and on the AEM the ability to put a bypass valve on. all CAI are similar. the filter is the main difference some do flow more air than an other.

Now Having 3" piping wether it be AEM or Ractive or OBX makes little difference, because Piping is piping.

it's like saying a McDonals Straw is better than a burger king straw, if they are the same diameter there is no difference.

so buy the e-bay one and get a K&N or an Accel cool blue filter. if your not worried about carb or bypass valve.

Well, the J's Racing intake fucks the whole tuned length theory up, as it is a completely odd shape, and isn't a cols air, but gets similiar results.

Personally, I don't buy the whole tuned length and diameter theory, one reason is, there are only so many damn ways you can run an intake from your throttlr body to the hole in the chassis, and two the length of a CAI is going to dictate air velocity more so than diameter. Obviously f the piping isn't even close to the diameter of the TB one way or the other, it is going to effect flow, but as long as it is with in a few mm, you wouldn't notice a difference.
