ok guys quick question, what weight and what brand oil do you run in your 5.0? I think im running to light a weight, im running 5w30 castrol syntec. I live in nc and the temp's in the winter are in the 20's to 30's and we have average summers. Should i be running 10w30 or 10w40 instead of 5w30. thanks for the info

it wont really make a big difference at all. For instance, I work at a Ford dealership by me and all we use are 5w-30 and 5w-20 for gas motors all year round. And thats what ford recommends.

I use 10W40 conventional oil. Either Valvoline or Castrol.

I will say this, there are only 3 true synthetic oils. All the others are not. Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple.

Winter I run 5-30, summer 10-40 Amsoil.

I'm from NC too. I use Havoline 10W-30 in all but my largest displacement engines.

I thought Mobil was full synthetic?

I thought Mobil was full synthetic?

Nope, they use to be.

ya know, it has this stuff in your owner's manual. or, it should. if ya don't have one, you can grab one at a dealer. prolly don't even have to buy one, just leaf through it, find your oil weight, and tell them you changed your mind =)

or even easier, just search on the internet =P

since when were owner manuals right?

Mileage and wear is a factor too. If your engine has lots of miles on it, like over 100k, a slightly heavier oil, such as 10W40 may be better than a 5W 20 or 30 oil.
