I need some technical advice for my grand prix GTP. I had a stock 7 pnd boost pulley on my GTP when I first got it, then I put an aftermarket 11 pnd boost pulley on to go faster. I was wondering what is the highest pnd of boost pulley you can put on the supercharger before it starts becoming harmful to the car??? I'm not sure about the size of the pulley just what it puts out as far as boost. I dont want to harm my car by putting the wrong one on there. Please help me.
Also what other mods can I do to my car that are minor?
I am also a new member to this board!!! :)

Welcome to the board.

Im thinking that the 11lb pulley would be the 3.25 pulley.
If you get a chance measure is and see.

Any other mods besides the pulley??

GTPs come with a 3.8" pulley. Your "11 lb." pulley is most likely 3.4". That's the right size to have if you have only minor to mid-range mods done to your car. IIRC the 3.4"er will allow the blower to red line when the engine does. I'm currently running a 3.4".

The smallest pulley that I've seen people use successfully is the 3.25". I'm sure there are guys out there who have modded their cars radically and are running smaller pulleys, but I haven't met any. The big issue when running the smaller pulleys is KR (knock retard). If you have high levels of KR you can actually take a step backward performance-wise.

Some relatively simple mods you might want to look at are:

CAI (several different brands, all cost $200-$250) easy to install.
180* Thermostat Not during the winter unless you enjoy freezing your butt off.
Exhaust Infinite possibilities. How much do you want to spend.
STBs Buick Regal GS STBs cost less than $15 from the dealer.
Tint I love how much different my car looks with tint.

How many suggestions do you want? Sorry Ripn, wasn't trying to step over you. Your post wasn't there when my long-winded ass started typing.

i have a k & n cone filter that i have to put back in.
cut out on the exhaust, that makes the car sound good and beef up horsepower a little.
and of course the pulley. so you guys think that i shouldnt get a smaller pulley then or i will be playing with fire?
right now my car runs 14.5, which is not good i want it to run in the high 13's. what else can i do to make it run there without harming the engine etc?

You should invest in somesort of scan tool (atap, LS1M) so you can monitor how much KR the car has.

How many times have u been to the track? Are u using just the street tires? What were your 60ft times?

I'd throw some Autolite 104's in the car too and a 180 tstat.

I cant really say that its a good idea to go smaller in pulley size until you scan the car and see what the KR is. If you are getting high KR numbers your car will be slower.

ex. I ran 12.9 w/ the 3.1 pulley at Byron, IL the same day I tried running my 2.9 pulley. My car pulled a few more degrees of KR and killed my timing, think I ended up running a 13.2

how the hell did you run 12.9. what am i doing wrong. is that an edit program that goes on a laptop that hooks up to the diganosic port? i have not checked that at all.
i dont remember my 60ft, dont have my time slips with me at all.
i do not have slicks or anything on it, just stock tires. its a pain in the ass to launch since it spins really bad. im use to racing rear wheel drive cars too.
i usually have to launch kind of slowly then floor it so it wont spin.
LSIM- isnt that for ls1 engines or ls1 edit is what its called? and atap is auto tap right which is free off the net? man i need a laptop. do you all know anybody in MD that works with grand prix like this? i usually hang with 4th gen camaros and firebird ppl and they have all these programs but not for my car.

If you can afford it, take those Eagle RSA banana peels off and throw them as far as you can. I bought my car new, so let's assume that the tires were as good as they get when they are new. My car would roast hell out of the RSAs with no moads done to my engine. I can't imagine how poor my traction would be now. I'm running BFG Comp TAs 245/50/17 and love them.

Get a cam, custom PCM, drag radial or slicks, and all the other basic mods and some nice 50 deg weather and you'll get 12.9s - 13.00

When I first started racing my car I used some bald ass RSAs. I could pull 2.0 60ft w/ those. I switched to Nitto Drag Radials after the RSAs were toast.

LS1M scantool ( http://www.ls1m.com/ ) that many LS1 guys use but also works for the GPs. Currently there are no programmers, like the LS1's have, out for the GPs. Only option is to get a DHP or CYA Racing PCM.

Check www.clubgp.com for any local clubs in your area.
