'88 Civic, no reverse lights?

My '88 Civic hatchback needs to go through inspection, and I just discovered that neither back-up light illuminates. I tried replacing the bulbs, but this did not fix the problem. The wiring diagram shows a backup light switch, so I ordered one from my local dealer for $25. Where the heck is this switch, and am I correct in assuming that this probably the problem?

the switch is on the transmission, on the outside probally where the linkage goees inside, not sure what i tlooks like in an 88 but have a look around. that may be the problem, the other more likely, easier and cheeper to fix problem would be a blown fuse. look at the fuse panel under the dash.
