I have a Y8 head and will be doing the mini me swap and using a VAFC. How early can you make vtec kick in?

no point in making it early with stock camshaft. just put it to stock specs.

Dont you loose low end torque doing that?

Leave it right where it is... Honda has years into designing and testing these motors, no need to change the variables, esp. on single cam motor.

i am building a turbo setup and i will set my VTEC at 3,000 rpm or so, as early as possible. :P

What is it with these stupid questions? There is no point in changing the engagement unless you change cams. The engine will simply run like shit compared to how it would run using Honda's engagement point.

im sure honda didnt put it in its place for simply performance reasons im sure they included performance and economic reasoning when they set it
what would be the point of a vtec controller if it was in the best spot? sure on a basically stock motor its pretty much fine but if you get it TUNED right you can pick up a few more ponies

I'm not using a stock cam. I am going to be using a Crower turbo cam. I will be going turbo so I was wondering how early it could kick in to help "make up" for the lag.

Because some people will buy anything if you tell them it makes their car faster

there's no real way to tell without a dyno if any gains are achieved. It is true that VTEC was implemented (in SOHC cases) as simply an economy feature in lower rpms and a way to extract a little more power out of an old platform.
Unless you have cams or forced induction, stock or right there around is usually fine.

Yup i also really hope you have a turbo cause you wouldn't be the first to put turbo cams in a N/A cause there faster being turbo. sadly i've seen it.
