Bloody upholstery?

I want to apologise if this freaks you out but it is spooking me out so I just want to ask if anyone got any ideas what this could be.

I bought this car online last summer and it's a 95 integra ls. It's a hard to define color but officially it's called taupe although I have heard it called desert mist and even tan. The interior is tan cloth upholstery. I have been trying to fix it up a little bit at a time and once while working on the center console I found some sticky brown stuff around the handbrake which I though was spilt coffee. I cleaned it up and forgot about it but I have since found melted candy etc in the trunk and under the seats.

last night I had a buddy take the car over to his workplace to shampoo the seats and interior. They were dirty but had no obvious stains on them. My friend returned the car this morning with some white towels on the rear seats and carpets and they all had dark brown stains which they kept absorbing from the rear seats and upholstery. The seats now appear spotless, but were oozing the brown substance while wet. The carpets seem very brown and are still wet. This stuff appears so much like blood that we were all spooked and now I am kinda upset as I don't know what that stuff is and how it got into the seats since the surface of the seats seem spotless.

Does anyone know what could have caused that? This car has no crash damage but I am aware that the windshield was replaced. Even it was involved in an accident I cannot understand how blood could be on the rear seats and not in the front where the windshield shattered (assuming this really happened). Also does dried blood come out with shampoo? I would hope that coffee stains is the answer since it seems to me that coffee would dissolve more easily than blood. How can I determine if the stain is really blood?

Please give me your thoughts on this and once again I apologise for using this forum for such a weird topic. I need some answers that make sense. Thanks.

It is probably coke from kids sitting in the back seats.

Blood is tough to get out (if it is). As some people at a dry cleaner for some solvents, or they can do it for you. I think it's just coke or coffee, too.

It did not occur to me that spilt coke could be the culprit! Just after I saw your replies I poured some coke on a white paper towel and it does seem to look similar to the brown stuff I saw, just lighter. I guess dried coke would be much more concentrated and produce the deeper color.

Man what a relief this is! I was about to go look for a forensic blood tester or something! I guess I'll poke around some more whenever I remove the rear seats for maintenance. As always, you guys are really helpful. Thanks!

so its coke right? dried blood...i would sell the car so fast. hope u can get the coke out gluck!

It's more then likely Coke. THe pervious owner of my teg had a can of Pepsi explode in the back, and cleaning it was pretty similiar to what you describe.

I really want to believe the coke theory and I'm relieved that so many of you feel that it is really coke, but I still have this eerie feeling when I look at the white towels stained with this stuff. It is a really deep brown color and I am wondering how much coke it takes to get to that color.

the coke is sticky and dirt sticks to it so it will get darker. I am sure it is coke etc.
