Oil Pressure

I have a 2000 A6 2.7 T with 38K Miles.
I changed the oil recently and when I first started the car and put it in drive the oil indicator light came on. I restarted the car and let it warm up before I put it in drive and the light never came on again until today.
I was driving to NYC and was about 50 miles into the trip when I hit some traffic which brought me to a stop. When I accelerated the oil light came on and then went off, after a few more stops the light stayed on. I pulled over and checked the level and it was ok.
I stopped and got something to drink and let it cool down, after a few minutes I drove off and the light did not come on again.
On the way home the light stayed off until I got to a stop light about 75 miles into the trip.

I used Castro 20/40 synthetic blend and added 6 quart along with a new MANN filter.

Is this a sensor problem or a oil problem or a oil pressure problem?

Are you the first owner of the car? With the turbo engines, some of them are pretty hard on oil if you wait long periods to have the oil changed. Also, if you are not the first owner, and the other owner put some kind of thinner oil in, that oil would break down and leave a bunch of sludge in your oil pan. Sometimes this sludge can block the sending unit and/or some of the oil lines causing an oil pressure problem. Other than that, I don't know because at 38k mi it is pretty low for an oil pump to be going out.
Good luck with it and let us know what you find out.

I dont like Castrol syn tech. For this area PA,NJ,NY 20/40 is to heavy. Use 5/30 or 10/30 and the engine takes 7 quarts, at least that is what we put in at the dealer and that isn't overfilling. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help, I ended up replacing the oil pump.
It turns out it was out of spec by .5 bar and that caused the oil light to come on.
