Hey all..
I dont see many posts here regarding stereo installs.. and A good system will always compliment any ride..
So my question is does anyone have any sub box designs for mk3's with a Targa top?? I want to put 2 8" subs in, but I want to keep the factory TT hold down.. any ideas???

PM trent88t on supraforums.com, he's one of the few to have a sub box/amp rack that fits the targa still. You'll have more than enough space if you remove the false floor and take out the spare.
EDIT: Almost forgot his newest screen name is Trent@MVP on supraforums.

I've always built my own boxes. It's pretty easy, just find out how much volume you need to have.Should be in the specs for the subs. and then go get some carpet and 3/4 particle board and go to town. 1 thought would be to build it to fit inside the spare tire spot. Or just build some truck style boxes and fit them under the tt don't know if there's enough space though.just some ideas. Saves money when u do it yourself.

well i was going to wait til i get completly finished before i posted the progress. but since im so close and there is so far no comparision even close. i feel safe enough to show you the rough version. basically i built this im my garage in my spare time (which i have none) the box will be painted to match the color of my car. the amp will be where you see the wires comming out of the center. there will be a small pvc pipe raising out then attaching to a platform that the amp will sit on. this will be under lighted with some red neon. then the subs will have a blue glow to them with HI projection lights. hope you like it. ive spent over 100hours on it so far and its still far from finished.

Hey not bad man, I don't like stereos but thats a nice job. Good to see your still on the forum too. Only one thing about that box though is it must weigh a ton. I went through the big system thing a long time ago, built a ported box that got rid of my back seat for 3 12's still kept all my trunk and targa space, sure am glad I lost intrest in all that. :p

actually when i bought this setup a few years ago i was really into SPL. i could burp almost mid 150's. but now my tastes have changed to SQ. i have almost $5,000 worth of equipment in my car. it sounds better than most home stereos. hell my cd player was $900 alone, the same with my focal components.

but the box is actually light. the subs out weigh the box. each sub weighs 30lbs. the box total weighs about 40-50lbs. tops. its still 100lbs, but ive built SPL boxes that weighed close to 160lbs. it took 3 people to get it in or out. NO ONE was going to steal that. they couldnt. doesnt matter much anyway. i have my stereo fully covered in my insurance.

Looks real good.. Id really like ta see it when its all finished!
But I plan on keeping my system fairly modest, 2-8" kicker compVR's! Or I have 2 10" Alpine Rseries DVC's that I could try to fit in there somewhere

the point of this post was to Keep my factory targa top hold down It looks like I might have to stick with the box I built for the spare tire well.. Well, if it works dont fix it I guess

Thanx for the reply's!!

Is that an Rockford Fosgate logo on the subs? Im suprised a focal speaker buyer would go with RF subs.

Anyway, the box looks good. The curves are sweet.

well if you notice its the old school style. when RF still made awsome stuff. not this FATF lookin bullshit now. these subs can handle 2000watts each. is rated at 92Db and has lasted 3 years of 800watts each at a 1ohm load. these are some of the best subs ive encountered. although you couldnt pay me to put the new RF in my car. with enough clean power these subs can sound great for SQ. i cant justify getting some SQ subs til these blow. and i doubt i could blow these. as long as i keep clean power going to them, the right box volume, and the right components powering them. these will last as long as i need them. i mean these are the punch power DVC 15's they were $500 a peice new, and for that price i still havent seen anything better today.

I haven't been in the car audio scene long enough to know RF didn't always make crap. Thanks

lol thats hilarious. yeah RF went downhill. they started to follow the trend and their products started to go for showy and cheap instead of function.

so do you have the TRD supercharged tundra? my dad works at a toyota dealership and i test drove the 5spd 2wd. that thing roasted em thru 2nd and half of 3rd. fast truck.

I agree with your point on RF.. Ive got an old 12" RF.. Way older then yours 11sec.. It was old when I got it and Ive put it through hell ever since.. I got it about 5 years ago.. Not much for SQ.. but it hits pretty hard
