K&N I think makes the best short air intake. The two proven CAI's are AEM and Injen. People tend to lean towards AEM cause pretty much every person with one is absolutley happy with them. Don't expect a whole lot out of an aftermarket intake besides a lot of noise.

lol... just buy one, you wont feel the .1 hp difference between one or another

All cold air intakes work on the same basic permise...you get a 1% gain in HP for every 11.1 degree's you lower the intake temperature. This is because cold air is more dense than warm air. Typically, this is see as a 5% gain or so under most condtions. So maybe 5.5hp or so, give or take, on a motor like that. The filter is the most important part. Just make sure it has a K & N filter. AEM's has a good filter, Injen does. A crappy brand like APC and Ractive have crappy filters, so aviod those. As long as it has a good K & N filter, you'll be fine...as they said, just find one with a good filter and pick one. They all are a CAI, so they all make power under the same principles.

they are all pretty much the same, but i do like my k&n filter alot... i know they make good filters....

when you say
" People tend to lean towards AEM cause pretty much every person with one is absolutley happy with them."
why are they happy about them because of price, power, noise???

Read my above post. AEM uses a good filter. They use nice, smooth piping with smooth bends. A good filter = better flow. As I said above, the basic princple as to how the power is achived w/ a CAI is the same. Just get a good filter and nice manderl bent piping, you'll be fine. Why are people happy with AEM? They do this, unlike crappy Ractive and APC, which use crappy filters to name one thing, for example.

AEM also puts a lot of R&D into their intakes. Reason as to why their intake pipes are only 2.5" for civics rather than the 3" that all the other companies use. If you get too big of a pipe you lose velocity kinda like if you take a hose and close off part of the end with your thumb, it comes just spraying out, but when you let go it just kinda dribbles downward.

Nobody can beat K&N filters. I believe both AEM and Injen use K&N filters. I think I remember Weapon R uses K&N filters too, whatever happened to that company anyways??? Anyhow, yah, you just can't beat a K&N filter. If you are really on a budget this is what I would do. Purchase a $30 intake off Ebay. Buy a K&N cone filter for it. Also purchase some high temp engine enamel and spray the pipe(s) inside and out with it.

Yea, if you are on a buget, just buy the piping and a K & N filter. It will cost less if you are on a budget and don't need CARB approval. Remember, if you do this, use a K & N filter.

its funny how many gamers are on this forum lol...
but as for intakes...i don't think you'll get much more than 5hp out of it depending on where you live (climate, altitude etc..)
if you have the cash, after u get the intake, start replacing stuff like ur intake manifold, a new exhaust (full cat), and get a header...get all that air flow upgraded then start with the other upgrades...

Me personally i use K&N air filters. But What about the HKS (mushroom shape) air filters. The people that I have seen with the hks all have short ram intakes. They say " It gives better air flow" Is that true???

K & N filters generally have the best air flow. Also, they are reusable, and the foam mushroom shaped ones are not.

I was just wondering if i put a D16Z6 V-TEC head on a D15B2 block with the stock pistons will I have problems with valve clearance?

APEX'i has the best filters!
As for a d16z6 intake. Most SCCA Pro Racers use the stock air box with a K&N odly enough. So if it works for them its bound to work for you.

Hmm, that's odd...maybe it has to do with modication rules and class placement. A stock airbox has fairly restrictive piping, so you'd get more out of a CAI (K & N and custom piping), as dyno's show.

Thats what I would have thought but Oscar Jackson actually recomends using it becuase with a drop in filter it works just fine. The stock box isn't that restrictive since the engine(in NA form) sucks in very little air. The box and the piping just aren't as bad as everybody thinks.
