brake problem

'97 K1500 My right front brake rotor is warped. It was warped last year so I replaced it. It worked fine for several months then I noticed the shaking steering wheel and all that comes with it gradually coming back. It's pretty bad now. The rotor I bought was a rather inexpensive one from a local auto parts store. Do you think I just bought a junky rotor or could there be a different problem? Thanks

check for play in your idler arm and pitman arm.
a warn pitman arm can cause vibration in the front end. check it out asap because it could cause you to loose your steering. also if you go through alot of mud and water and use your brakes alot when driving in these conditions you will warp your rotors everytime. try getting the rotors resurfaced by a mechanic.

Seems strange to be warping the same side again. There could be a brake hose problem too. Does it pull to one side when you hit the brakes? I have replaced countless brake hoses on trucks and Suburbans. Seems like GM had a bad batch years ago and didn't realize it 'till years later.

at one point between 95 and 98, I had a good run of bad caliper mounts. No matter what amount of lube you applied, the caliper would sieze to the bolt, resulting in a no longer floating caliper. Under moderate use, by some of the guys driving fleet trucks, the rotors would warp from the brake constantly dragging. it usually happened on the right side, only occasionally on the left. Eventually we found upgrading to new bolts, and using copper-coat hi temp never seize seemed to work.

you might check the torque on your lugs, I know it sounds odd, but overtightening your lugs can cause this problem too...so I've been told, had the same problem and hey, it's fixed now

another thing to look at is the wheel bearing assembly if it has any play the rotor won't last very long. make sure the rest of the suspension components are in good shape as mentioned above. chevy balljoints die rather quickly.
