skyline handling sucks?

im not bad mouthin the skyline so dont get me wrong on my question. but i read and hear that it has pretty bad handling cuz of its long wheelbase and the fact that its 4wd. what d u guys think bout this?

Generaly a long wheel base will aid in a cars stablity, but detract from its ablity to rapidly change direction.
However skylines are not big cars, and never have been, infact even in 4dr form they have what I would consider a short wheel base.
And where on earth do you get it that AWD is a bad thing?
Iv never known a car to have its ablity to corner made worse by the addition of AWD.

The few skylines Iv been able to drive all had great handling, lots of grip, and very rapid turn in.
What they lacked was any feel. There was absolutly no connection with the road, through the steering wheel or the seat, or any of the pedals.
It felt exactly like I was playing Gran Turismo. Even when sideways coming out of a corner, the only refernace I had to the cars attidute to the road, and its current level of grip was the smoke in the rear view mirror and the change of direction in the scenerys movement as seen through the windows.

Actually I've got very good feel for the road and the car's attitude. It does take a bit of getting used to by heck any car is like that. Once you connect with the car you can feel even tyre roll which is uncommon to feel in any car approaching 3000 us lbs.

They handle much better than most people give them credit.

I'd have to disagree about the Skyline having bad handling. It's the best handling car I've had the joy to operate. It sticks to the road better then any other car I've had. As far as the feel, mine gives me great road feel and I can feel everything it's doing or wants to do. Such as when the tires start to spin, can feel the rear body move over during a tight corner when I'm on the edge of making it slide, etc, etc.
When it comes to being a passenger, there's only one other ride I was in that I could even compare to how it feels to ride in a Skyline, and that would be a Porsche 911. I stated and compared how it feel to ride in the two because I haven't driven a 911, and since I have my Skyline, don't care to.

Were did you read or hear about this issue? In the "World Travels of the Non-Intelligent Automotive Enthusiast" I believe the final copy is out next month.

Its totally untrue. I have driven Ferraris that did not handle as well, full stop.

Let see, the car was band because of its handling capability.

Of course (Raf gets his button pushed again) there are many different models of Skylines, and I daresay an R32 Gxi doesn't handle quite the same as a GTR :p However, I've driven an R32 GTS, R32 GTSt's, R32 GTR's, R33 GTS25t's, and R34 25GTt's. They all handle bloody well. - And I've always felt well-connected to the road, even in my old R32 GTS - which was an automatic sedan; not exactly designed as a sports car.

Get into one. Push it to 240kph along a straight. See a tight but long right turn. Brake hard. Clutch...drp to 3rd....drop to 2nd while heeling and toeing...declutch...90kph...whack the turn...just whack...clip the apex...get out of it....slam the loud pedal....go wide to the left...120kph...clutch....3rd....and fly on. Erm...what's that you were asking? :p

Of course Raf has driven both my GTR and my old GTS-t. I would venture to say the old T MUST have handled well or i would have had died in it along with Raf's Mrs. :eek: That car spent nearly as much time going sideways as it did in a straight line. Most do to extremely explosive power even though it wasn't huge it was enough to get it sideways at over 100kph or 60mph quite easily lol.

Na the skyline has the worlds best handaling for a stock standard car i believe. I have driven multiple GTR (including an R34 GTR NuR) and ive also owned a GTR powered R32 GTS-t. Compared to cars like the EVO, WRX and ferrari's it is really bloody good for its size and weight. But the ultimate car with handalling is my S2000, its the ultimate...not many people know abot the S2K's handling.

When i got my gts in bog stock form the handling was a bit twitchy. The car sat quite high in the back and the high centre of gravity back there meant you were always correcting on the steering at open road speeds. (it was still on 15's then)
I put a set of king springs (not super lows) in it and since then it's been hard to fault.
Turn in is great and you drive it on the gas out of each turn and it's real predictable.
I've driven a few gts25's, gts-t's etc and they all steer great.
Haven't driving a car since that feels any better than a skyline!
