Fuel line Priming

I have a 1997 GMC Yukon, recently quit running. Found out it wasn't getting gas so I pulled the fuel filter and it was cloged. I ended up changing the fuel pump and the fuel filter. I can hear the pump whining and have even toke the line off the other side of the filter then turned the key on and gas comes out. I can't get gas to go up to the manifold were the bleeder valve is. The valve that looks like a tire valve. How do I prime the system to get the gas flowing again?

I have even removed the valve stem core and cranked the motor over and didn't see any gas. Do I have to crank the motor over for a very long time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

According to my Chiltons book, to prime the pump after replacing it your supposed to turn the key on for two seconds until the pump stops, and then turn it off for ten seconds, and then repeat. Do this a couple of times to bleed the air before attempting to start it.

I fixed my problem, there is a rubber seal that fits on the fuel pump shaft. The seal fell off during the pump replacement and I didn't see that it fell off. So it would only pump a little gas in the line and most of the gas just went back into the tank... Works great with the seal in place..
