Fix leak in power steering pump?

I've been told by the dealer that services my 88 4runner that there is a leak in the power steering pump and it would cost $770 to fix it.

I haven't noticed a problem with the steering. Could I simply add power steering fluid on a regular basis and not see any major problems?

Depends on the leak rate and how far you drive between stops.

Something to check: see if the connection between the pump and the pressure line is tight. If it is not tight enough, it will leak and appear that the pump is leaking. Torque it down. Also, the line itself may be leaking at a fitting or anywhere along its length.

it may not pass your state inspection if your pump is leaking
