how to race with automatic?

sorry if this has been answered already but,
i would like to know the proper way to race
with an automatic. I got an 89 turbo supra
im pretty sure u hold brake and gas up til 3k
rpm or so then let go of brake and floor gas.
is there any other ways. thanks for listening

You got it, just hold the brake and gas till you build some boost.
