Octane booster?

My car was acting like something was holding it back so i tried some STP fuel cleaner and it has really made a difference. I saw the "NOS in a bottle" in there too. It was the kind for off road use only and it was supposed to boost your gas by 7 octanes. My question is would my camaro run right if i put this in my gas? Someone told me it might run hot or something.

Nope, would work fine, might give ya a little kick too, just dont use the cleaner and octane boost at the same time. If your looking for a premanant boost for a small price get some good spark plugs and wires.

I use the outlaw octane boost all the time with my car and it works real good. I don't hear anymore pinging from the engine.

You'll be fine using that stuff, but I wouldn't expect a 7 point increase in octane. I forget what the formula is, but someone explained this before, about how you can tell how much it actually ups your fuels octane rating. The number they give you (7) is not usually the same as the number you are thinking of, which is like 87, 89, 92, 93, etc... For example, adding a bottle of that is not going to put you up to 100 octane if you had a tank of 93 octane gas. It will however up it a little.

Unless you do any timing mods or a chip you don't need any more than 92 or 93 octane. Using a higher octane fuel than you need may actually reduce hp, due to a slower burn rate. Also, check to make sure the offroad stuff is compatible with your Cat and o2 sensors. If it isn't you'll be looking at some really expensive repairs.

my friend put that stuff in his rx-7 and it made the engine actually run worse. dont know if it was that the stuff doesnt work or if just doesnt work with rotaries, but they are supposed to love the octane...

Exactly! Even 93 might be too much on some cars, my car runs best in 89 even with advanced timing and such. You wan to run the lowest grade octane possible without detonation.

Also the 7 point increase is bull! Like started before, running 93 octane and octane booster will not get you 100 octane, but more like 93.7 octane.

You're right ,HiFlow. I searched "octane boosters" on the net once & found that myself. I even found some home brews. I don't think I'd try them in a street car though.
