what gives the second version of the b16a a extra 10hp from the first b16a gen 1 cause the first b16a (cable trans) has only 160hp when the second gen (hydro trans) has 170hp, i know the compression is different but its only a .2 higher and that can't make a exta 10hp

read up on the specs of these engines...there are minor differences that will give that extra 10hp

Basicly they just retuned it a little.
By 92, Toyota had the 160hp Super charged 4agze and the 20valve 4agze. Nissan were working on thier own version of VTEC and mitsi had Mivec.
So I think to stay ahead and to try and make for the extra weight of the 5g and 6g Honda did a retune.
The compresion was raised a little and more aggresive cams were used. As well as a New ECU, with better mapping ablities and new fuel curves for the differnt cams. inlet manifold and head porting I believe remained the same.
They also use a differnt Dizzy and O2 sensors, like they were getting ready for OBD II.
Bascily if I swapped the head on mine and the ECU I would also have the extra hp. But I think Iv got a better and flatter torque curve.
The extra peak 10hp came at the expense of a lot of low end power.
