Mods, I woulden't move this seeing as many people do not read the computer forum.

I got an e-mail today and norton caught it and deleted the attachment which was the new virus going around. Have a look who it said it was from.

I know for a FACT grant did not send me a virus, so just be careful of who you open attachments from, always use a virus scanner.

The other day I recieved a similar email from [email protected], which is my e-mail address from my domain name. So just be careful and I thought I would give you a heads up.

I got a virus yesterday due to being on my gf's address list. it was then sent to everyone on MY address list. it's called jdb----.exe and the icon is a TEDDY BEAR. Once you find it, right click and delete, and empty trash can. As you can imagine it spreads fuckin fast, so it's worth seeing if it's on your comp, some people may not take the time to let their friends know they got the virus. It's dormant for 14 days then screws up your comp.

...jdb----.exe and the icon is a TEDDY BEAR...

Very old hoax. JDBGMGR.EXE is the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java and may be present quite legitimately on many computers.

The W32/Magistr-A virus which is capable of emailing infected copies of JDBGMGR.EXE to innocent users, and the W32.bugbear@mm worm file is a .exe file and does not have a bear icon.

NOTE: If you have already deleted the Jdbgmgr.exe file, in most cases, you do not need to re-install it. The following quote is extracted from the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, "Virus Hoax: Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) Is Not a Virus (Q322993)."

"The Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) is only used by Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 developers.

If you follow the e-mail message instructions and delete this file, you do not have to recover it unless you use Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 to develop Java programs on Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 98, or Windows 95."

Information from Nortons (Symantec) Antivirus site.

The virus makers are just going to keep making things rougher for everyone. Norton (or the like) has long been esential in keeping them at bay.

its the mydoom virus, its a virus taht is meant to search all your text files and such for any e-mail addresses, and then it'll send em to everyone.

it does denial of service attacks to sco.com, and is the fastest spreading e-mail virus ever.
