97 camaro. i want to put a system in the car, but i don't want to put the box down in the trunk. i had an 89 firebird and i had the box that filled the trunk, and it sucked. i had no room in the car. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about the type of box, and where to mount it. i would like to keep the back of the trunk open for storage, if it's possible. thankx

There are boxes I've seen that have a single sub in them that mount in the little space on the left hand side of the trunk. It's not much, but it's something over stock. The only other suggestion is to start removing the rear seats, and build a box in there, but I doubt you'd want to do that.

I've also seen ready-made drop in boxes that fit in where the rear deck lid latches into the rear panels, and with a couple disconnects can be removed entirely. That might be an option, so that you can have the tunes when you want them, or have the whole 8 cubic feet of storage space when you need it. I'll see if I can find the link to those...

camaros have TRUNKS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? where, mine must be too small to find ;) anway, i saw a sweet setup that i am going to try and copy. use the storage compartment hinged lid that was available in some camaros and firebirds, (ive seen more in firebirds than camaros) it mounts to the sheetmetal just nextto the gas tank (be VERY careful if you drill your own holes lol) but by creating a "lid" do the storage space, you can mount your subs and amp on that, and just lift it up to access the space underneith, put two posts on it so that the T-tops if you have them, can rest on the posts over top of your system instead of on it. so you can still throw the t-tops in the back, and have your system :) now i think the stock lid is too flimsy to support the weight of the system, so you might have to make a peice of plywood or subwoofer box material and cover it in stock color carpet. but thats my suggestion for keeping the best of both worlds.

that actually is pretty sweet, have to choose between cargo or T-tops though. can you still stow the T-tops in the back with the box folded down in the cargo area??? it shows that if you flip it up you can throw the T-tops in the trunk, but they arent secured, i like using my bag. i dont have any pics of the setup i was talking about, i can try to do a scetch of it tomorrow and post it. but it allows you to use the cargo area as the box volume, so you can keep the T-top bag and safly secure the T-tops. and you basicly store stuff inside the "sub box" if you need the storage.

ah HA, on the same site that blackSS posted, there are "flush well boxes" those are what im talking about, cept the one i saw was hinged, so you could just lift the panel with the sub and amp on it, to access the storage underneith. it had the two posts built into it so the t-tops dont rest on the sub. but over top of it.

You're right, the t-tops would not fit in there with the subs in the down position. If you look at some of the pics though, they've got quick release connections, so it wouldn't be hard to remove if you needed to...

Nothing wrong with that. If I ever planned to have an awesome stereo, something like this is the direction that I'd go. I hope to have more go than show in the future though...

this is true, but its soooo much fun to blast out bad to the bone from a bad ass system as you toast the rice burner in the next lane.

ive got the mtx thunderform in my car. it only holds one ten inch, but if you know what your doing and get the right sub with correct amp it will still sound awsome. my car, not trying to be too egotistical, sounds really good. it fills the car with good sound and can bearly be heard outside the car so its turns out to be a pretty good deal. just dont get one with the mtx subs(too crappy by my standards)

I think i've made up my mind. I'm going w/ the camaro millhouse box & amp rack, audiobahn 2Ch 400 Watt MOSFET Amp, and 2 CERWIN VEGA104 10" SUBS 1200 WATTS VEGA 104. wish me luck. god, this is gonna rape my wallet.
