My Camaro

Alright..... When I sold my Trans Am, my cousin decided he'd give me his 1986 Camaro z-28.... It's been stored every winter and is in PERFECT condition. It runs a little shaky when in the morning, so I will be rebuilding the carb and runnign all new vac lines. The paint is dulling, but still shines, so i'll be getting it painted the original gunmetal. I have Edelbrock RPM series cat-back exhaust, but i'd either like to go with flowmaster, or i've heard a bit about slp loudmouth? Any reccomendations? I'd like it to sound like and old big block chevelle, not a 5.0. 4.10 gears? It currently has 3.73... I'll add a dress up kit and maybe and intake or something, but I'm not too worried about an intake. What I'm worried about is turbo. I contacted someone from florida that knows a bit about turbo, and said he knows nothing about turbocharging carb'ed cars. And Ideas? I only wanna spend 4 grand on all of this. Paint wont cost more than $800 for buffing/ high grit sand, spray, clear. Exhaust wont cost more than $400.... Any other mod's anyone can think of? I'd ike this car to be really quck, and i'd hope a turbo would gimme more snot in the higher rpms in the high gears. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I'll be putting in a new clutch, that'll be $200. But someone leave some replies, I really wanna know about turbo on this car.

SLP's Loudmouth exhaust will take some modifying to get it to fit a 3rd Gen...

a turbo on an all stock 86??? um, dunno bout that, i would reccomend against it. but i like to play it safe. as far as exhaust, its pricy, but the only exhaust i have ever heard that might make your 5.0 sound like a big block, and thats the one i have been singing about sense i got on here, GMMG's chambered exhaust system. best way to sound old school, is to use old school parts. the "mufflers" on this system are original replacement 1969 camaro pinched tube resonators. so it is a true chambered exhaust like they had back in the day. only catch, its 700 bucks. as far as other mods, a torsen rear end, vortec heads, comp cams xtream energy cam, those are the big ones.

You see, I couln't even tell ya what this car runs now, I've never brought it to the track. I've driven it two months. It's a lot fast than my trans am, easy, and it's got the power to drive up the mountain I live on in 5th gear barely touchin the gas.... I've only broken like 100 once on the highway, the high gears just dont quite have the juice on the highway... It gets there quick, but after that it dont have much. Hell, my malibu will top out at 113 when the gov. kicks in. Kinda sad knowing a winter car will do that, and a sports car wont.... Just lemme know what you guys think....

what gears does it have??? ive hit the speed limiter in my 89 RS several times at 115. sucks, i was playing with a SL600 on I495, and saw an opening, took it, i was pulling till he pulled out, and my speed limiter kicked in, had to pull out the way and let him by, it sucked. oh well, not like i woulda beat him anyway.

You could do a blow through seup. Fuel injection is always the way to go when you are turbocharge a car. Better controll and more accurate controll of the fuel and timing. What is the compresion raito are you running? I have a buddy that bought a kit to turbocharge his 81 camaro with a carbed 350. He can only run 8 PSI and he cannot intercool it. He went through alot of work/time/money, and my buick will still put him on the trailer. I would go with a N/A build. better money spent. The only time I would turbocharge a NA engine is if I had it torn apart and was able to build it from the ground up.
