I have a 1995 Lumina 3.1. and I have reason to believe that my timing chain is broken or has slipped. Does anyone out there know how to check to see if the crankshaft and the camshaft are aligned without all of the trouble of taking the timing chain cover off? With electronic ignition it is kind of hard to tell where the camshaft is with no distributor for a reference point? Help!

Bring #1 Cylinder up on top dead center of compression stroke. After this take a paint marker or some white out and mark the crank pulley and make a mark on the timing cover. Hook up the test light and if the marks are off so is your timing! ;.
