Well let's narrow down the field...

Do you like...

1) Coupes
2) Sedans
3) Hatches

Do you want a newer body style 96-00 (about $7k-up) or an older body style 92-95 (around 3k-up).

My personal bias is towards 99-00 Civic Coupes and Hatches.

Now, a B16 is the engine code for Honda's 1.6L DOHC Vtec. This engine came stock in 94-up Del Sol's and 99-00 Civic Si's. It was first put in various cars in Japan such as CRX's and older Integra's. This engine is notorious for it's ability to rev extremely high accompanied by plenty of power and a close-ratio transmission to keep the revs high.

The cost of one of these things is anywhere from $2000-$4000 after installation, depending on where you get it done and what generation B16 you get.

B16a = Jap. Spec.
B16a2 = Civic Si
B16a3 = Del Sol

A large amout of the Jap. Spec B16's have cable clutches too, which make the whole swap cheaper.

Well good luck. Ask more questions, thats what were here for.

B16 engines are in delSol VTEC's and 99-00 Civic Si coupes. They are 1.6L DOHC VTEC pushing 160hp. You can get them out of those cars or online at sites like www.sohfast.com Price for a B16A1 which has a cable linkage to the tranny, installed is about $2000 and B16A2, A3's are about $3000 in stalled and the JDM B16A4 (170hp) is about $4000 installed. Or you can get the Civic TypeR's B16B (185hp) for about $7500 installed.

There's a pic of my B16A2 equipped Si in my signature

Possible to make it rwd or awd.. unless you have about $100,000 to custom build every part, then no

to get the 1995 civic up there.. you can either turbocharge the stock motor, or swap in a b16 or b18 and do bolt ons and internals work

i think you should get a 5th gen civic, hatch or coupe, but try to get one that has vtec because it will make the installation with another vtec motor easier. Then drop in a gsr motor and build it up from there.

I would get a 5th gen coupe. I think the 6th gen coupe looks the best (gee, I wonder why), but a 5th gen coupe looks good too, and it will get you more cash to put into the motor.

you also need to weigh the negatives of a 5th gen. The car is older, been beat on more, and has had more chance for owner neglect. The parts all over the car are more worn that the 6th gen. I say spend the money to buy a 6th gen and mod it lightly. It'll be much less prone to stupid problems (broken power windows, bad hatch mechanism) than a newer 6th gen.

Well, the guy was talking about swappin in a motor, so the motor wouldn't be a problem. But a problem withthe 5th gen would also be rust, depending on where you live here in New England, any car over 5 years old is almost garunteed to have rust.

See, I have a 6th gen coupe DX, but I really wish I could get a 5th gen coupe EX, for the PW (I don't have it), VTEC (I don't have it), a moon roof (I don't have it), and keyless entry/powerlocks (and no, I don't have that either)

exactly my point.. older = cheaper, but not cheaper in the long run

I see your point, but you could also say that a brand new car COULD be cheaper in the long run too. What I say is, if you can find a nice 5th gen for good money, go for it. If you can find a nice 6th gen for good money, go for it.

get a 5 gen hatch thats what i did then save up for a swap (im thinkin but i like automatic so im in the thought process still on mine) maybe h23 or ls dunno but thats me so you could do somthin like that get one work up the suspension and brakes and stuff and get it ready for more power while you decide but id say get a 5 gen if it was up to me because they are light as hell too and the hb has more interior room than youd think for the size of the car and doesnt weigh much more then a rex.

of course, if speed is your only issue, you could buy a 5.0 mustang and mod it to 300+hp for the price of buying a hatch and swapping the motor.

and no all you doubters..it wont break down. My uncle and I built one on a tight budget ($6000) for a friend of his and it is at 345hp and runs just fine as a daily driver.

Well, if speed REALLY is your issue, you could get a used Kawasaki Ninja, or a Suzuki R6, and just keep it stock. that thing will get you pretty fast.
