I own a 04 cav and I am looking at a 17 inch rim. Problem is I am a bit concerned on the size of tire I should use in conjuction with them. Every different web sight has told me different things from a 245/45/17, 215/45/17, and 205/40/17.
I have had a 205 series and they fit very nicely in my 94's wheel well. I am concerned about rubbing and offset.
Can anyone help me out on what size tire WON'T throw off my spedo for my 04 cavalier used with a 17 inch rim?

Well mine fit nice, 215/45/17 ... you wont even notice a difference in the speedo..

Stock tire options:
195/65R15 (24.98" diameter)
205/55R16 (24.87" diameter)

Sizes that should work:
215/45R17 (24.62" diameter)
215/40R18 (24.77" diameter)
215/35R19 (24.92" diameter)

I think with a 245/45R17 you would have some rubbing issues in the front.

Just bear in mind that 17" rims are heavier-think about the brake upgrade you'll need to keep stopping 'em without replacing the pads twice a month.
Brakes have to stop the wheels before the wheels will stop the car.

I put 225/45/17 on Motegi MRM's on my chick's '96 base Cavi Looks tough and handles like it's on rails. The Intrax springs and tower bars help too...BTW no rubbing or anything like that.
