In the previous generations of DSM's which includes the Dodge Laser, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and the Eagle Talon, the 4G63T was used on the top of the line models. However, in the currect DSM, a 3.0 V6 is used instead. The Evo began with the 4G63T when it was first introduced as the Evolution I. The power output with the DSM even with the 4G63T was not as high as the Evolution series.

it's probably the 19 pounds of boost that comes with the evo ;)
as long as it goes fast and handles great, what's up?

you're not trying to put eclipse parts in an evo, are you?!!?!?!?

lol wtf are you on about?? its a yes/no question, yes the evo 8 engine uses the same block, no its not the same engine as everything else other then the block has been changed, and switched 180 degrees for weight distribution

also evo's boost from 10psi-14.8psi (evo 1/2/3-4/5/6/7/8)

ya they both evo and 2g turbo eclipse use the same engine block but i guess the other parts in an evo are more powerfull and advanced... for example... eclipse 2g turbo cars use T25 a small turbo whereas the evo8 use a big 16g turbo... anyway u can say an eclipse GSX as a younger brother of EVO's :D

Is it better or worst if the EVO8 uses the same block even if DSM just beefed it up, how is the reliability in the future. I dont want it car to break down after a couple of thousand miles on it.

The 4g63 in the DSMs all seem to suffer from a percieved reliablity problem that only seems to effect DSM's.

The engine has been in use in various forms since the early 80s, and has proven itself to be extremly strong and reliable.
Here in NZ 4g63 equiped EVO's Gallants, RVRs, etc etc etc are very popular used imports from Japan.
They come in with high milage, and get then generaly get thrashed even more, and take to it extremly well.
I have certianly never heard of an EVO engine suffering from Crank walk or the other problems DSM owners talk about.

Then want you are trying to say is that the EVO8 engines and any and or more DSM engine blocks takes a beating and keeps on ticking.
For the most part, the engine is what is my most concern , I have not heard anything so far about the transmission on any DSM cars going bad.
Any information on the transmission issus?

on an evo, the clutch has to go.

OEM won't handle under 12.5 sec. runs.

evo doea have max boost of 19 psi... and i agree about the clutch.. my frind has already killed his but then again he has a low 12 second car....
very fun car..

19psi from the factory? dont think so! MAX boost for an evo safely is 22psi.

What is wrong with the clutch, and which clutch is recommended to buy. If factor boost is 19psi, then what is the highest boost that an EVO8 can get out for a stock, until you have to start to modifiying it?

19psi is FACTORY max boost...
you can safely go higher, but factory isn't at 22psi.

the correct answer to this question is that the eclipse has an evo motor in it, as the evo and 4g63 have been around far before the eclipse/talon/laser.

EVOs boost at 19psi dead stock. althou it tapers to around 16.5 by redline.

you can get an ECU reflash and have it hold 19psi to redline, which helps topend power alot. and you can run higher PSI if you run higher octane gas.

Im pretty sure the 4g63 found in the eclipse is from the older evolutions and never had the updated evo4-5-6up engines

lol no they dont!!! my g/f has an evo 5, boosts 14psi, mates karl/dan/alistar and heaps more have evos ranging from evo 1-evo 8, and they never boost 19psi unless they have been played with. trust me i know my evos. go to www.nzmmc.co.nz and ask there, you will learn everything there is about evo's

In an Eclipse, the transmission is on the passenger side and the timing belt on the drivers side. The EVO has the trans on drivers side and belt on pass side. The engine rotates the opposite direction on the EVO as the Eclipse, and so does the turbo. EVO 1-3 were just like the 1st gen Eclipse though.
