Changing the headlights on a 96 GrandAM

Hi there,

Has anyone ever changed the headlights on a 96 GrandAM? I've been told that it's somewhat difficult and that you basically have to take the entire front apart. Is this true? Does anyone have any advice on how to do it. The lights are only 10 bucks but a mechanic wants to charge me 100 bucks to do it, and I'd rather just try it myself. However if it's a pain in the rear and worth the 100 then I'll do it. If anyone has had any experience in doing this please give me some pointers.

Thanks
Shannon

If you are talking about just changing a bulb, it should be pretty easy. If memory serves me correct on my 96GA SE, it is just a matter of removing one screw and lossening another to swing a plastic cover out of the way. The old bulb and socket can be removed from there. Only tricky part is trying not to touch glass on halogen bulb.

this is what you do. on the driver side there is that black plastic cover over the two screws you need to get to. that comes off with a screw that you just turn with you hand, then once that is out of the way you unbolt the two screws holding down the headlight assembly. once you have those two bolts out you have to work the housing out (its easy but it touches in spots so you have to fanese it) once you have it out you can hold it in your had and turn the bulbs to the right i belive to pull the bulbs out. the left side is the same just doesnt have the plastic in the way. also when you putting the housing back into place take your time and be nice to it when you put it back.
