Flywheels??

I cant make up my mind on what one to get, if any. so here are my mods and you guys help me out, I dont really want to spend more then $300 on the flywheel since the clutch will be 400-500$

1995 B18B1 LS integra engine
Running 6 psi of boost, but plan to turn it up to 10 after I get a good FMIC and better fuel managment
Obviosly full exhaust, high flow cat

I plan to go LS/Vtec within a few months
This summer I am doing a full rebuild and after that I should be running around 15psi and hopfully around 300 hp.

I wanted a aluminum flywheel but after reading up I heard they are pretty much junk and cromemoly? is alot better, will last alot longer. I daily drive my car and put about 2000-3000 miles a month on it. I am in traffic alot. I also go up to the dragway every friday night during season and all import wars at NED. so my car does take a good beating, ontop of that I usally find myself racing about any car that gives me a rev at a stop light. I was told the lighter flywheel I go the worst my 60' foot times are, and as it is with my 195/60 -14's I am pulling off a horrible 2.6 sec 60 foot time, I do plan to get street slicks as soon as the snow is gone, so i need a flywheel that can take them as well. I also know of I go to light then it will be hard just to take off because the rotating mass is so light there isnt much keeping it going.

After looking at several different flywheel's ACT seems to have the best prices and quility but they Have a 8.8 lb and a 12.5 lb I want the 8.8 but is this to light for me? the 12.5lb seems like I wont be saving all that much wieght (Im not sure what a stock flywheel wieghs) but If im only saving a few lbs i doubt I will even notice a difference.

So what do you guys reccomend for me? any other brand flywheels? or would I be better just keeping my stock one?

A lightwheight flywheel allows the engine to more rapidly transfer its power to the drive train. It allows the engine to have quicker throttle response due to its reduced mass. By reducing rotating mass, the engine revs quicker under acceleration and this reduced mass also equates to improved acceleration.

I would get one if thats what your in the market for.

Do you have new cams/gears? if not I would get some skunk2 cams/gears and get the flywheel later.

Well I have to do the clutch anyway as this Turbo is going to eat up my stock clutch, I got almost 85,000 miles on the clutch and I know it will burn it up so I want to do the clutch and flywheel (if you guys think i should) now before they go.

Im just not sure what one is best for me, it seems like ACT will be, but the 8.8lb or the 12.5lb? or is ACT even any good?

I am probably going to buy the act 12.5 pound flywheel here in a little under a month... i dont want to go too light for a street application

get the 12.5. the 8.8 would be insain for driving in trafic because every time you hit the clutch your revs would fall off instantly, which means your shifs (unless you shift with lighting speed EVERY time) would be really jumpy... example... say u shift from 2nd to 3rd at 3k-RPM, by time you put it in 3rd your revs have went from 3 to idle (in like a 1/4 second.) that would make for a ruff ingagement-- unless you let the clutch off slower but i am guessing you are getting a stage 3... well, those get hard to hold in stop and go traffic... i drive in new orleans rush hour- and my stock clutch gets somewhat tiring sometimes. but thats just my :2cents:. anyway the 8 pound one wont make that huge of a differance, and will bend easyer than the 12 (you drive 3k miles a month... you need everlast parts lol)

Hmmmm how much does a stock B18B1 flywheel wiegh?

i am not 100% sure but i think the stock is 15.3 pounds... or 16.7 i know those are flywheel weights for a honda but i cant remember which one goes with the teg. ...i think its 15, that would make sence. (LS doesn't rev as high, doesn't need to fall off so fast...)

that isnt that heavy at all, so only loosing like 3lbs doesnt seem like it would be that much of a difference, and I could do the same thing with a crank pulley and keep the strength of a stock flywheel.

Does anyone have a light light 7-9lbs flywheel that can say it isnt a hassel to drive on the street?
I talked to someone that said they have a 7.5 lb flywheel off of ebay and they said it is great and they would never get another one other then that but I jsut cant afford to be trying things to see what I like better, and I dont have enough time to do the flywheel at a seperate time as the clutch, i have a feeling i should do one now but i cant make up my mind. I really was leanin toward the 8.8 lb but if i cant drive it then whats the use.

the 12 lb flywheel will still do the trick, although wont make as big of a difference but when you say your only loosin 3 lbs that is like 23% of the weight thats almost a 1/4 that makes quite a big difference and although the 8lb flywheel would make it difficult to drive you can get used to just about everything. but would make just daily driving a task.

Hmm i guess your right, that is a bit of wieght.... and i bet i would get used to the 8.8 in no time, as for daily driving a task, my other car is a 1988 fiero formula, shift cables are frozen so it is very dificult to shift, clutch if its not all the way to the floor it wont even shift.

i should probably just go with the 12lb one then huh?

I have the 12 pound ACT flywheel, I must say that even with the 12 pounder i notice the car is harder to drive. sometimes there is a harsh engagement unless i really make sure i'm paying attention to how i'm shifting. I would say that the 8 pounder would be very obnoxious to drive in stop&go.

I really like the one I got and i wouldn't recomend the 8 pounder for the amount of street driving you do.

well i had a stage3 6puk clutch installed at the same time. and i actually lost almost 1 1/10 in 60'ft but i like it alot. traffic is find its a little more touchy but you get used to it fast.

got v-tec?
