On my 2000 Eclipse (automatic transmission), the transmission has locked in Park while parked during an ice storm (ambient temperature about 32). Warming the car up for 25 minutes had no effect. Suggestions?

Car behaved normally the evening before when freezing rain began. In the morning car was encased in ice but temperature was just around 32. Car started but gear stick would not move (button on gear stick could not be pushed in). This is the first time that this problem has occurred. I wondered whether anyone who has Mitsuibishi Eclipse in a cold-weather state has experienced similar problems.

Yeah, i've heard stories about 2000 or newer models having the same problem, but i thought it wasn't true, so i think you might have to take the car to the dealer (when it gets warm) and have them check it out. They might fix it for free if there's a recall in the 2000+ models.

yeah but mine is a 95, not 2000 or newer, so it wont help me any.

i had that problem with my manual jetta back in the day... had a huge snow storm in jersey like 3 years back and my car was burried in 4 feet of snow out in the parking lot from all the drifts... when i finally got it cleaned up the fluids must have froze.... idled the car for an hour before i could move the shifter around smoothly... was pissed cause the liquer store almost closed on us... bastards
