1994 540i nikasil block problem

I have a 1994 540i that I purchased through a BMW dealership in 2000 with 53,000 miles on it. The engine now appears to have the deteriorated block problem associated with the nikasil blocks. BMW did extend the warranty to cover this problem but it has since expired. Any thoughts or information about my options?
