Im looking for a sport bike....I have never ridden a bike but i really really really want one...I have been saving up some money but go on ebay alot to look at them....i was wondering if i can trust the info on ebay about the bikes people sell.....sometimes i see 2000-2003 model bikes (600cc) ranging from $3000-$4500...the seller says the bike works....so i was wonderin if ebay is a trust worthy place to buy from.....i dont wanna send my money off and then dont get anything back

Two good rules to always remember when purchasing anything.

1) Buyer beware

2) If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

There are an infinate number of possibilitys why a brand new $8000 - $10,000 bike would cost $3000 - $4500. Theft recovery, damaged repaired, totaled and rebuiilt, stolen, ect. I dont think i would ever buy anything with a motor off e-bay unless i counted on it being a project. Especially if it has two wheels. A great resource to use when you are ready to buy is cycletrader.com That way you can go and talk to the buyer one on one, ride the bike and get a feel for how they treated it, or see what dealers have the bike your looking for.

I would stay away from ebay, go to www.cycletrader.com and find bikes in your area you can go inspect before buying, there are plenty of great deals on there also.

Depends on what was rebuilt and who did it. If it was wrecked and rebuilt it will never ride the same again. The same way a car never drives quite the same. You would be better off spending a little more and have a brand new or newer bike than a rebuilt.

I bought mine on eBay. It was 1 year old w/ 240 miles. eBay = instant $2000 off a practically brand new bike.

if what you are buying off of ebay is not that old, most likely you are ok. however, prices that are 2 good 2 b true (like a 10k bike for 3k) should just be avoided. ...so should sellers with little or no feedback for big ticket items (like your bike). usally you can email the person who is holding the auction and talk him out of that deposit as long as you are comming to look at it within a day or so of the ending. most people will let you do the 'mutually agreed to not complete the auction' and just offer it to the next person on the list.

I was a Honda/Kaw mechanic for 2 years and I wouldn't buy a bike without seeing, touching, and hearing it! Period!

Recently (10 days ago) I tried to buy a 2000 CBR900RR off of EBAY. The SELLER said he had trouble with the last winner not paying, so to protect himself he was being cautious. He wanted a deposit for half in 3 days (money order) then he would ship the bike to me (his cost). When I got the bike I would have to pay him the other half and then he would send the title. Instead, I offered to pick the bike up in three days cash in hand. He ended the auction early, and never got back to me. Maybe he got a better offer, or maybe he was going to screw me, I'll never know. Either way I set a limit that I truely thought was fair to both of us, but I wasn't sending that amount of money and hoping for a used motorcycle the seller says is "mint" to come in the mail.

Well I would not hesatate to buy a bike/car off ebay, BUT it would have to be local so i could look/hear/test ride it b4 the auction ended. Plus checking feedback is a must!

my .02 worth. Keep the change
