How much would it cost to:
1. put in a new timing belt
2. change the clutch
3. tune-up

How often does the transmission of a 3000GT go out and what factors account for that? How much would it cost to get it fixed/replaced? Thanks.

timing belt $500
change clutch $600
tune up i think mine was $189
tranny is the problem i'm having right now
lowest to fix tranny about $1700 other wise $2,500 and to get a new tranny something like 4 grand.

:iagree: Those sound when you have a shop do the work.

You can save money on those if you do them yourself, but all of them are far from easy.

So what usually causes the transmission to go out? Is it something to be expected like replacing the clutch every 50-60 thousand miles, or does the transmission go out just because of bad driving/bad drivers?

The argument goes both ways as to why they go bad. But you shouldnt have to replace it until well after 60k miles.

Yeah $500 for a timing belt sounds a little too high. I got mine done for about 300.. canadian. Clutch for about $450...

And about the tranny's... I've heard that most people have a problem with them in general. I think that was one of the 3k's biggest problems; a weak tranny. Especially the 6spd. Most of the people I talked to said they go faster than free beer. I'm starting to have problems with 3rd gear on my SL. And can you rebuild these transmissions? I always thought that when they go, you just gotta get a new one

they can be rebuilt, not sure about the cost of it most of the time you but a rebulit tranny they dont rebulid yours.

That is honsetly a big reason i didnt buy a vr4 was because i needed something dependable.
