Ok I've got a 98 prelude. I know it comes with 195 hp stock but my plans are to add all bolt ons that i can, cold air, headers, performance cat, intake manifold, bigger piping, hks muffler etc. But anyway i also wanted to add a 50 shot of nitrous (gonna go with the zex kit) and i would expect my car to be up near the 300 hp range or at least getting close. I'm not gonna be a serious street racer, just occassional people i wanna be able to shut up and my question is does anyone think the engine would be ok with 300 hp or would it wear it down quick? Also i would have the nos on a switch so it wouldn't automatically come on. I just wanted to know if the engine would handle it and if not wat else would be a good idea to upgrade on it? Thanks for any help.

If you ahve 200 dollars, and ur getting a 50 shot of nitrous (mayb) that leaves 250 hp. I doubt you'll get 50 hp to brake the 100 hp barrier but GL :). As for the nos, is your prelude vtech or what? It depends on teh engine, and engine condition. Also, are you looking into a wet or dry system? Get back and I'll try to help you out more

yeh the prelude is a 98 prelude. all 97-01 preludes come with DOHC vtec. The 50 shot is going to come after a aem cold air intake, intake manifold, dc sports headers, hi-flow cat, 2.5 in exhaust piping, and HKS hyper muffler, spark plugs and wires, plus all the other little stuff. With all the mods listed and a 50 shot of nitrous i have no doubt i'll be real close to 300 hp, but the thing is i dont know if the stock engine coul;d handle it. I only have $4500 minus the mods listed above and i wanted to know what i would need to upgrade to be sure that my engine could handle 300 hp. Thanks for any help you can give me man.

full bolt ons with nitrous on your h22...youd have about 275 hp. IF you want a solid 300 hp you should get a polish/port and valve job, and get nitrous specific cams. With that headwork you should easily have 300 on the bottle.

yeh thats something i forgot to add, cams and cam gears. But yeh i can easily get 300 hp but the main question is will the engine handle it? I dont wanna do all these mods and then get it goin at 5 or 6 grand and kill the engine.

Just make sure you have enough fuel for all the air that will be coming in when you spray, and you'll be fine.

Yeah man....thats a small shot on a relatively low mileage motor. Peeps run 75 wet shots on 150k+ motors without problem. As long as you dont go crazy like some people and spray all the frikin time youll be fine. You might also want to get a new headgasket...its not the strongest on the h22.

Your motor will be fine with a 50 shot. The only thing that would totally destroy the motor would be detonation. I would suggest a wet kit for your nitrous because fuel and nitrous are sprayed in proportion for the best nitrous/fuel mix. The dry kits increases fuel pressure from your injectors so it relies on the health of your injectors to function properly. At least with the wet kit I don't have to rely on the injectors. I think a dedicated fuel flow from the wet kit is more efficient because it has it's own fuel supply. I have the NX wet kit on my CRX D16a using the 50 shot and the power pulls are awesome. My air/ fuel ratio stays stable once I spray, never goes lean. You can also get the fuel pressure safety switch so for some reason the fuel pressure drops below 35psi, the solenoids are disabled to prevent nitrous flow. I was going to go with ZEX at first but decided to go with NX because it has more options if I decide to upgrade the system for more power. NX has more wiring but it is simple to install and has actual WHP. Don't forget the A/f gauge, colder plugs (ZEX or NGK-bkr7e), and a strong clutch. The stock clutch won't hold the spray overtime. We get our A/f gauges from www.dynotune.org they are reliable and accurate.
