Question for GM technicians

I have a question. I am friends with this guy and he works at our local chevy dealer. Now his brother says that he takes his 99 WS6 into the dealership every now and then to program the computer. He says that GM comes out with different codes every so often for better shifting, acceleration and so on. His brother says that He can program those things into the car. Is that possible? Does GM do that? I bought the hypertech programmer for alot of money. I just want to know if he is getting all the same things I am except for free.

well, yes and no. the programs that come out are usually to correct bugs that surface after the cars have been released into production, little things like the corvettes have a reprogram for the fuel guage, because the fuel they used to calibrate the program had very little sulfer in it, and the gas you buy at the pump has more in it so it throws off the sensor, and the software cant cope, so the guage goes nuts, so they redid the code with a higher sulfer content, and we use the new code to reprogram the PCM. there are reprograms available for every car, we have them for cavaliers and such right now, but its not like a regular update every month or anything like that. now, something to keep in mind, is chevy is not concerend with performance. so these reprograms are to correct driveability concerns, emmissions problems, stuff like that, not give you more power or faster 0-60 times. the hypertech is tuned to give more power and faster times, not fix program clitches from the factory. i would reccomend doing both the chevy reprogram first to make it run best, then do the hypertech for performance. hope that clears up everything.

Hey i just wanted to say thanks man. Geneopsyde said that you would know. I was looking for a way to contact you but I didn't know how so I post this thread. Thanks for the help. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't getting ripped off with the programmer. Once again thanks.
