would it be better if i buy the whole 1st gent intake manifold and throttle body. I heard the 1st gen intake manifolds are an upgrade for the 2nd gens.

you can get your current one extrude honed, and that is like super porting. and all you have to do is open it up at the opening like the write up says.

isnt that expensive. I could get a whole 1st gen manifold for 20. which is better, a honed one or a 1st gen.

The probnlem with a 1g manifold is that it is setup for intake ports twice as large as the 2g head ports. So there is a massive flow restriction (step) where the manifold meets the head. That will require porting, or a 1g head swap. I would do just the TB, or do it all. You'll also need to open up the TB hole on the mani to the larger size. Its 52 to 58mm IIRC.

could you quantify the benefit of swapping the throttle body?
how about the benefit of a whole head swap?
like what kind of gains could one expect or just your opinion of how beneficial these swaps are.
can expect very minimal gains from this kind of job?
as in this just one of those jobs where you're trying to sqease the last 4 of hp out your car?
you get the idea....
thanks

That is a very valid question. ITs not hard to spend more time and effort than its worth to end up with 5 hp gain. Which of course goes against the whole turbo DSM thing... I cant quantify just a TB swap, but I can for a 1g TB, head, and manifold swap. A ocal guy here picked up 3 lbs/min, in the 40 pound/min range. Thats roughly 30 HP. Some poeple always will say the 2g head has smaller ports but its better, etc. But this does it for me ;) Now going to a 1g head is not a simple project. Its basically the upper half of a 6 bolt swap. The tough part is dealing with the cam angle sensor issue on 95-96s, requireing the baro wire mod or DSMlink, just like with the full 6 bolt swap... So is that 30 hp worth it to you? Maybe not. But if you are good with this type of work, and already have or plan to get DSMlink, I say do it. If its going to cost more than 500 bucks, I dont think I'd bother unless that was the next logical step based on your current state of tune. Hope that helps...

is swaping a 6 bolt head hard to do on a 98 gst, or is it just the 95 and 96

Its basically the same either way. All of the info you need is at www.magnusmotorsports.com (physical swap) and www.roadraceengineering.com. (CAS wiring)
