How often do you use your computer?

Chris

Basically, I have to do a project for one of my classes, Writing for Engineers, and I need to find out how often people use their computers a week, or how long they are on, rather.
I couldnt find any info on stats canada (just tv usage, computer owership, and % of people who own computers who use the internet).
So, if anyone knows where I could find an independent source, that would be better....but I can use the habits of everyone here to :icon16:

So, thanks for voting (if you do......), and post your computer overusage 'issues' :loser:

(yes, Im at mine a bit too much to :sly: )

I log on for 3 sessions a day, mainly for forums and AIM.I've used Word probably half a dozen times this year, and there is software bundled with the machine that I've never opened.I did a lot of music downloading when Ifirst got the PC, but cant be bothered any more.

Shit, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. I do research for school, hw for school, forums, e-mail, etc. But sometimes I just find myself sitting at the comp. for hours for no reason whatsoever.

My attention span is really bad so I use it whenever I'm watching TV cuzz watching TV by itself is just too damn boring. I use the internet for entertainment mostly; looking up cars, downloading music/videos, stuff like that. This computer has 22GB of media on Kazaa alone.

I use mine pretty much all the time. TV sucks.

I'm on my comp pretty much all of my free time during the weekdays. The only other thing I do during weekdays is homework and eat. I would be doing something else but my dad has to think I'm doing homework all day

22gb......right now, I have 440gb shared on the p2p programs I use :uhoh:

Oh, I should add taht the main question is how often the comp is on....teh project is about how much power computers consume in the average household.
Thanks for the replies so far.

hahaa. I have over 50gb of shit off Kazaa and MP3s and movies and whatnot.

I spend less and less time on the computer these days. Go out as much as possible. Maybe 1.5 hours a day. But my two computers (work and home), work is on 24/7 and home is on about 15 hours a day.

I usually muck around on the internet at night when I have nothing better to do (Which is the case most nights) or if I'm bored during the day- I'd put my useage at about 25 hours a week.

Beats TV.

I'm a design engineer so I sit at my computer using my cad at least 5 or 6 hours per day.

I'm either on it all the time or not at all. It's a friend thing and if I can be out with them I am but if I can't I'm home on the comp wiht h/w or talking to them.

I write a lot too like essays, poems, etc.

I'd say around 50 hours a week, most of it being at work. I dont exactly feel like getting on at home after being in front of a screen at work all day... though AF does make the days pass a little quicker :)

Im on well over 40 hours a week because of work and I go home and do stuff sometimes on the computer so I spend the better part of my life on a computer.

I am getting less and less computer USAGE this year than ever... I am only on one about 30-35 hours, which is definately less than last year.

My computer is lucky if it gets turned off every other week... usually every third week, and at that, it only gets a "restart" rather than a "shut down". But I live in a dorm, so I don't see the electricity bills. ;)

Since I write software (for the most part) I am on the PC a whole lot more then 35 hours a week.

I'm surprised you didn't quantify the poll into PC realted time outside work releated activities.

I spend most of my workday at the computer. I don't browse the boards as much due to a long term project I am working on, but I like to check in here n there when i can :D

At home I spend about 2 hours a night average, and that's mostly working on the budget/espense sheets and working on updating my website and doing work on another website project I am working on.

Ya, I pay a little over $1000 a month for my dorm room....so, me and my roommate leave our windows open all the time (with cardboard cutting part of them off....the cold air helps our computers overclock farther (their in the window), and fresh air is nice). Thats, and since we are paying a fortune, its good to feel Im getting the most for my money.

And i didnt quantify what we use our computer for, the project is for power usage by a computer in the home....so it doesnt matter if you're using it or not, just if its on.

Mines on 24/7 (well, both, I have a laptop along with my desktop). My desktop uses a about 350 watts at all times (5 hard drives, overclocked heavily, blah blah blah), and the moniors about 300 watts combined.
Its capable of heating the room :eek7:

I'm on my computer most of the workday, and then I go home to do some personal work so I'm on a little more than 40 hours per week.

Welp, I am on "a" computer probably in excess of 70 hours a week, but a lot of that is for work.

The home computer USED to stay on 24/7 but we are learning to turn it off, as we just got cable internet (it's f#$%ing FAST!!) and it's SCARY how many high-level alerts zone alarm catches. One thing abt. cable internet, if the comp's on, you're online, so I figure it's safest that we turn it off when we leave the house.
