What happens when a 89' covertable flips?

I was driving in my friends 89' vert and I was wondering how strong the windshield is. If it would just lay flat if the car flips.

It really depends on how much force is on the impact of the roll-over. The windshield a pillars does have some design strength and will not fold flat if say a group of people just flipped the car over.

Either way, you will still be killed or severely dismembered if a vert were to flip over.

with that wonderful thought in mind are there basic rolls bars (not full 5 or 6 point roll cages or whatever) but just roll bars that can be installed somewhat easily..or is it required to remove some seats, rip up the carbet and weld them on to the frames and stuff..

saleen makes a roll bar. It comes standard on all their cars. Not sure how "crash resistant" it is. Looks like its more for style, rather then saftey.

Saleen, Steeda, etc.., All those are called "styling" bars or "light" bars. They don't say roll for a reason. But hey when driving a Stang convertinle in the summer at the beach wit the ladies lookin.... it's worth the risk of death!!!

what happens when an '89 convertible rolls? what happens when ANY convertible rolls? you die. probably 95% of the time. besides, if you're stupid enough to drive a convertible fast enough to roll it, you get your just deserts :nono:

yea, well i mean you have to take some things into consideration, I mean not all convertibles rolling is the fault of the driver. Also there are other benifits to having a roll-bar besides protection, they also are greating in beefing up the chassis.

StangNut86

true, but 90% of all rolls are caused by drivers who don't know what they're doing. also, if you're worried about chassis reinfocement, a convertible is probably the last car you wanna race.

What happens when a 89' covertable flips? u die.

Time to make yourself a set of true roll bars. Maby a big crome one.

i agree with you, just that I wasn't really having hard core racing in mind. I mean a Mazda Protoge has a very good chassis, good strength, good suspension..you don't race them, but you can' still have fun blasting around corners and junk

heres a simple solution: beaner style. You know, where the tires stick a foot out the fender! wide track baby! lol

Yeah, nobody has ever rolled a hard top.

Rodek I am looking at putting a roll bar in my CONVERTIBLE. Check out this site if your looking.

well.. you ever see that movie men in black? at the very start of it when the dragon fly hits the window? something like that.

as for going too fast in a vert. i would never own a vert because
(1) its too heavy
(2) look to much like chick-cars
(3) not uhh.. well i duno but theres something about them

the safest way to drive a vert is the top up and have a good 5-6point roll bar. but as you can see that goes against the point of owning a vert. so really if you look at it that way, yes, verts CAN be fast, BUT its not the best of ideas, if you can see my point.

Nothing against verts, or their owners, but i think many will have to agree with me.

You drive what you like and Ill drive what I like.

And what exactly is the definition of a chick car, sounds like a little flame to me. Especially comming from someone who has nothing against verts or their owners.

hey man, it's all good. i wouldn't take this stuff personally. this just somehow became a thread about personal tastes in body style. it has nothing to do with flaming or anything of the sort. just remember, we're all car guys, we're all friends here. so even if you get flamed a little it's all in good fun! i mean, sure it hurt when suddenly i found out what happens when you put a motor together with my origonal plan, and it felt like i was being put down. but i was able to put all that aside and make the best of it all. so cheer up! besides, it's not like anybody is forcing you to post/read here, so if you're truly dissatisfied then it's entirely within your rights to leave. and i think that applies to everybody. so let's all just have fun.

well said stang.

as for the flaming thing, i was not flaming, just giving an opinion, and if you (and NO this NOT a flame) can't live with some elses opinon going against yours then i guess maybe you should rethink how you are letting your life go on. I own a 67 coupe, and if desided to take everything personal about what all the import guys thuoght of her. well then, i would have been 6ft under by now.
and BTW, i have seen some NICE verts, its not that i don't like them, i just won't want to be racing in them or anything.

as for another opinion i think that vert is fugly.. but i wouldn't mind the chick..

i still dont see how the car will flip over... i mean think about it. most ppl w/ top droppers are either crusin on the beach or highway, relaxing. recless driving w/ the top down is just stupid. you have to be truly retarded to go well over the speed limit and/or race w/ the top down.
i think 99% of the ppl would agree w/ me on this: 90 mph+ then top up
less than 90, top down, if u want.
and its not like cars roll over ez...

hey thanks for the link eillob, those guys look like they have some good stuff. This is unrelated, but I was looking in my 5.0 magazine and under AMP performance, they list Bassani headers at $346 (they don't specify the size) and then say that ceramic coating would be an additional $15. At maximum motorsports they sell JBA headers for $388 but then to make them ceramic coated is 188 dollars. Why do you guys think there is such a huge difference here. Is the JBA price for ceramic coating seem more normal then the AMP price?

Rerun I don't take any of this personal. Like I said drive what you like. For me its a mustang thing. If verts arent you cup of tea and you think they are chick cars thats your opinion. But if you are going to put opinions like that out there expect to get some opinions back.

what color is that vert with the chick on it? it kinda looks like a GM color that they used to put on Trans Ams.

Yeah it does now that you mention it. I havent really paid attention I've kind of been keeping up with this guys engine mods. Hes running a blown 377. It didn't give the name of the color.

personally i would have gotten a tonneau(sp) cover and painted it to match the car, and gotten rid of that wing.
