I'm interested in any information regarding the removing of a '97 Thunderbird stock stereo and the install of a newer model. If anyone can point me to a website that can help (preferrably for free) I would appreciate it.

Thanks

As far as removing it, go to any Ford garage and have a mechanic pull it out for you. They have two small U-shaped thingies that pop into the four small slots (2 on each side) of the stock stereo, and it pulls right out.

Wal-mart sells Schosche(?) installation kits that plug into the factory harness for like 7 or 8 bucks. All you have to do is connect those wires to the new stereo, so you don't hafta cut up the factory harness.

And any radio will slide right in and set on top of the original stereo holder(you'll see what I mean when the old one is out) so it won't bounce around.

The only trouble I've had is the new stereos stick out just a tad, but if you get the wires shoved back and out of the way it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Wal Mart sells those for $4 also. I just used a clothes hanger, although my stereo has never worked. With my factory radio, everything works fine, but when I install the stereo, all the speakers inside stop working. All wiring is ok, but it still doesnt work. We are thinking it isnt grounded right or something.
