You could always do the "spark plug in the exhaust" technique...

there are kits you can buy. They have you put a spark plug in your exhaust, then you can rev the car up and flip a switch as it is revving back down. It not only ignites the spark plug in the exhaust pipe, but it cuts the spark to your cylinders, thus allowing all the fuel to make its way back through your exhaust, creating flames...

Turbo + Free flowing exhaust + now Cats = Flames... no 'trickery' needed.
Don't be a puss and use a spark plug... do it the way real men do it. Either through a turbocharged motor or a rather healthy natually aspirated high compression motor.
If the motor has enough nuts, it'll shoot flames.

no, there's a gunmetal RX-7 around here that shoots about a 3 foot long flame everytime he shifts, that's cool. a maxima with spark plugs in the exhaust is a lil fruity. ever hear of all show no go?

hah my cars been shooting flames out for a while. whenever i let off the gas on high boost, it would make a popping sound accompanied by a fire ball. last time i was driving fast, the whole back end of my car was black by the muffler from the flames.

wow...
take it out?
that's what i did to the lude.
no problem.
very aggressively tuned cars with very sensitive throttles help as well...
your stock throttle is "slow" to close, compared to the on/off switches in race cars.
a quicker shutting throttle lets less air in when you let off, more gas in the exhaust, more flames.

The premise is that I want to be able to do it legally. I am trying to find a loophole so I don't have to take the car in for emissions.

i don't know where you live but around here they only look to see if the casing for the cat is there. i have a few friends that just hollowed it out and fed a straight pipe right through. it's pretty obnoxious sounding though.

(poly, i wasn't trying to be a dick... ;) )
you can get collector plates for your car, that would make it "exempt"

that will not pass emisions

i was actually talking to him the other day about that. we just have to figure out what the local laws are and how we can fit the GTC in a collector's car bracket.

i dont know if this works as i haven't tried it but some guy at school was trying to say completely duct taping some sand paper to the spark plugs will make it shoot flames out the exhaust/tailpipe...he's probably lying but dunno, haven't tried it...if you have does it really work?

Low Production numbers might help push it into the "collector's" bracket.

there's loopholes.
you can get almost any car some collectors plates here in ohio...
duct taping sandpaper to your spark plugs?
is your friend a complete and utter moron?

Well the GTC were quite low production. Now the question is: What do the local laws consider low production?

that's why i alluded to the fact that depending on where he lives hollowing it out may be sufficient. we don't emissions test around here.

flames happen when you tune your engine on the rich side. hence tune your car into a beast of a car and the flames will come all by themselves. please. do yourself a favour and dont get those imitation propane kits. all youll do is look stupid and cause unnessesary damage to your car and/or yourself
