Hi, i am planning on buying a car this year, and 3000GT is the choice for me. I am wondering if there is a way to swap the pop-up headlights for the "non-pop-up" once, like the once from '95 and up.

Thanks

damn rolling your eyes before i even answer the question lol :grinno:

well you can swap and many have but you will need more than headlights.
for the 1G to 2G swap (2G started in 94 not 95 by the way)

it is not easy though. for a first gen to 2nd gen i think you need a 2G hood, front bumper, front fenders, headlights, and turn signals. or if you want to make some cuts to your parts you can do it without that stuff but i would not reccomend that unless you REALLY REALLY know what you are doing. you might also need the headlight buckets from a 2G, not sure.

you can also do a 3G conversion (1999). a kit for that is here:

http://www.3sxperformance.com/body.asp

also not cheep but it looks damn good. someone around here in colorado is making a more rx-7 type custom kit too i think, not sure if it will ever happen though.

OH OH OH!

Change the front bumper too, and replace it with the badass looking '99 bumper and headlights. Truly the greatest year of the 3000gt.

Looks much more vicious than the snake eyes of 94-98, in my opinion.

Thanks. The reason i am asking it is that i think those pop-up lights will be on the "viewable" way, considering that you sit pretty low in and i am not much tall yet =] . ikOnone, did you think of swapping urs?

Does anyone know if there's any aftermarket 1999 3000gt front bumper? The stock one is very expensive. Also the OEM 1999 headlights are totally rip off, that's just what I think. They cost like 1000 something on 3sx, just for the 2 lamps. I dont get it. So just want to know if there's any place they sell the 1999 front end parts for cheaper.

The reason that it is so expensive is that the parts needed to do the 99 conversion are factory parts not aftermarket parts. For 3sx to get them they have ot order them in specially from over mitsubishi Japan. and All car companys charge obscene amounts for their parts.

yourmama, the 2nd gens don't have bigger turbos, they are all 9b turbos, the 94-99 simply have the stock boost settings turned up 2 more psi then the first gens did when they came out of the factory. You can do a free boost mod and have them running equal psi for free.

I have never heard of that... I will need to get it done then. Where am I supposed to go to get a free boost mod? Can any tech do that or do I need to take it to the Mitsu Dealership?

Well, you can put in a boost controller that is nothing more then a piece used to regulate air in an aquarium ($3). Thats not something to do lightly.

The best thing to do is get a boost controller and a good gauge. All told its only a couple hundred and you can safely take the boost up an additional 5 psi (91-93s) without having to alter fuel system.
