Hi-Lift Mounted to Yakima Load Warrior

Grabbed the mounting kit for the hi-lift today and was able to bolt it to my load warrior......

Although it looks like it is sticking way up in the air, it is actually level with my spare tire when I have it up in the basket.

I would think it may start shifting side to side, since it's bolted to round tubing, with a very small contact patch.

Are those u-bolts holding it onto the rack ?

Yep, two u-bolts per side. I was worried about it swinging side to side also, but it actually is pretty solid. Each mount has a pretty large bolt welded to it that the rail of the hi-lift slides over, followed by a u-shaped cap that fits around the rail, which is all held by large wing nuts. Once the two bolts are through the holes in the rail of the hi-lift, there isn't much side to side play. I think it will hold up pretty solid, but only a good outing will prove that...

I just used a couple of regular mighty mounts, a few bolts and wing nuts to bolt mine on. I'll try to get some pics of it one of these days. How much did that kit set u back?

OK, you can sorta see it in this image.

The mighty mounts are located where the yellow circles are.

That's all good till you get the 3" lift and need to upgrade to a 60" Jack.

Then passing semi's on the freeway would be quite an adventure.
:p

I used my Yakima horizontal Mighty mounts to mount my 60". I went out and stressed tested the setup, after a full day of bouncing around I couldn't seem to shake that sucker!

I'm still a little concerned about the strength of the Mighty mounts though. There is only 1/8" of plastic there. I'm a little paranoid that it would become a missile in an accident or break on the trail. I know that a few folks have attached them this way, so it's probably okay. I may try something else.

I'm thinking about making a couple brackets out of aluminum along the same lines. The only thing I would do differently would be to make it gated across the top so it would accept a lock and space the jack a bit further from the rack.

I have the Canadian version of the jack called the Jackall. Before you start rippin' into me as to why Hi-Lift is better, take a look at the mounting brackets available for it http://www.dborc.demon.co.uk/kernel6735.html just scroll down the page till you see the Jack Mounting Rack. I don't know if they'll fit a Hi-Lift but maybe someone from Vancouver can check it out. I bought my brackets from http://www.acklandsgrainger.com and they have stores in BC. I think the price was about $15 bucks, Canadian.

I made a second flat bracket piece to match the one shown and inserted a bolt into the bracket to match the one shown on the left.

According to a few things I've read, I have the Jackall as well. It has a Hi-Lift sticker on it, but it is more consistant with how the Jackall is described ...

You called? :D

As soon as those sliders from Xlax come into town I'll be in the market for a hi-lift or jack-all. Thanks for that Acklands link, very handy to have a Canadian supplier of bits and pieces of stuff. Looks like they have everything (everything but muffler bearings, anyways). Oh hey cool, there's even one just around the corner from my place.

I'll try to check out the parts we're talking about here sometime soon, don't hold your breath I'm a busy man here ... ok where'd that website with Britney Spears go ... aha!

I'd call TC's in Kent - they were awesome. I called C4WD for some help a few months back and they told me they wont even install gear bought somewhere else - even if its the same stuff they sell...

NSOR is quoting a Hi-Lift Jack (#HL-484) for $79.99 CND. Is this a good deal?

Yesterday I was at Mclendon's hardware, they are a small chain store, but carry twice as much hardware sttuf then Lowe's! So anyway.....I see that Masdan makes a "Hi-Lift" of there own? It looked beefier than the Hi-Lift brand Hi-lift! Priced at 69.00 aMerican dollars. Just another option for those of you that haven't gotten a "Hi-Lift" yet.
