advancing ignition timing

i was curious about advancing my ignition timing on my b16a motor how safe is it if you do it with a timing gun or a timing light? also does it make a difference someone let me know thanks...

it should be perfectly safe to advance your timing, the only thing it might do is fuck up your distributer after a while of use.

ok and how do i advance my ignition timing can i do it my self can someone tell me how and for sure this wont mess up my engine by advancing it? also i want to advance it enough so i can feel a difference

It is by far not worth the time. If you advance it enough to notice a difference then you have advanced it enough to risk pre-ignition AKA: Knock. This will destroy your motor very quickly.

The ENTIRE purpose of timing for performance is to get maximum cylinder pressure at the right time(12-14 Degrees ATDC) There are a TON of factor needed to calculate this however. But generally it takes about 20-30 degrees at 6,000rpm to reach this max for an NA engine running on gas. So ~14-18 degrees of advance at 6,000rpm will do this. Of course as rmp increases, the advance will increase. But if you have the timing tuned just right, you'll get great power and most importanly you'll gain A LOT of reliability.
