www.noyanusa.com
www.streetimports.com
www.flashoptions.com (shipping can be $400-500)

www.japandomesticmotor.com
Are a some of engine importers that The Probe community has had some success with. Noyan offers a warranty on their engines. Unfortunately you are on the west coast so shipping will be expensive. You can also do a Google search for "KLZE" and see what comes up.
When you do decide on a company, you must get an engine that has the following specs:
-one head must be labeled KL31-101 and the other KL31-1A1
-the cams must be stamped KL31 (not KL01 that is the USDM cam)
-the cylinder compression must be >200 psi (stock Probe engines are usually between 140-200 psi)
-the intake manifold must have an extended "straight neck" and rectangular runners and it should look like the one in this picture:
http://home.comcast.net/~mmunoz70/z/engine02.jpg
If the engine fails to have any of these qualities, it's not a "true" KLZE and may be one of the other "hybrid KLZE" engines such as some of the ones found in Europe, Australia, or even a USDM Mazda Millenia engine.
A KLZE engine will work fine in a '96 PGT.

No, that is what a KLZE would look like (minus the Ford valve cover). The pic is a KLZE intake manifold installed on a stock PGT motor. The PRD thing, the intake, the blue hose, and the spark plug wires are also not stock.
This car is totally stock except for the head unit (radio):

Since you actually don't own a Probe, you should look at this thread:
http://www.probetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1701055068
You should also join www.probetalk.com . It's a lot better than this forum since there a lot more than a couple people answering questions. 20,000 members on probetalk.com is not bad with more than 150 people logged on at all times. Not bad for a car that has been discontinued for the past 7 years.

Ok, which IM does your car have? The stubby neck or the long neck?
Here is a pic of a stubby neck/stock IM:

BTW, KL03 or KLDE refers to the stock US Probe/MX6 motor.

I know this seems expensive but if you have the cash you should deffinitly do it. This is only if you like speed. the engine itself fits in the probe cause its a small block but u cant use the engines altimate potential until you get a few extra mods... like first reinforced CV's. My cous has a 96 pgt and he had the cash and did it. Its purely a beutiful sight. I have a 92 probe with an afta market turbocharger and he blew my doors off and he didnt even hit 4th gear yet. I was totally speechless. http://www.coasthigh.com/Assemblies/Ford/ford_331.htm?Submit23=331ci

first of all you have to get the short block one and second... ...its just not gonna slip rite in easy as that... ... there are some modifications u need to do... ...like moving some things to diff. areas under the hood. but yea with some mods and time it will fit
