EDIT button!!!
back to the question. a 2nd gen GSX has good potential especially if you drop in a 1st gen 6 bolt block.
but the WRX has tremendous potential as well.
Stock for stock the WRX should easily take an 95 GSX however
about the Rx7 we need more info. what year is it and is it TT or not?

Compare year to year... Or even generations for the rx-7 vs eclipse... While the rx-7 gradually got better, the eclipse gradually got worse. Looks and performance wise.

i would go with the rx-7. i think that the rotary engine is an awesome engine. i wouldnt pick the eclipse becasue i have never really liked them. i wouldnt pick the wrx because i dont like 4-doors, just a personal preference.

Stock for stock I would take the WRX over the GSX and RX-7. The WRX is faster than both and has AWD. Granted the GSX does as well but the RX-7 is RWD. The other problem is that the 2nd gen Eclipse are prone to crank walk, an expensive fix and don't even get me started on the reliability of the 13B.
Of the group I would take the WRX.

you ask me i say that the 95 gsx is better than the wrx or the rx-7. you can do so many more mods to an eclipse than you can to ur wrx. oh and by the way my cousins gs-t kicked the living shit out of a wrx sti by like .598 @ 117-8 mph . i'll stick to the eclipse. and while were talking about mitsubishi, i've seen plenty of wrx's put in thier place by the evo

How much money did the gs-t have in it? I bet if you put the same amount in the STi, it would "kick the living shit" out of the gs-t. I'm talking about stock to stock. Not modified. And who ever said anything about the Evo? I'm not compairing an Evo.

and now back to the question... since u want to compare the same amount of money in each car.. the rx7 ans wrx sti will cost a lot more than eclipse lets say around 6-7k more than eclipse gsx... and if u do proper mods with that money i bet u can beat both wrx and rx7.... prove me wrong in this... and also in drag racing the fastest time for an eclipse is somewhere in 8 seconds and i dont see any wrx or rx7 in 8 seconds... if u have the quater mile times plz let me know :) and just now only i read ur latest comment... that is u are talking abt stock to stock... and the answer for this is maam nobody buys as eclips gsx or wrx or rx7 to keep it bone stock all their life :D these cars are ment to be modified... and again if u r comparing stock to stock... compare also the price of stock wrx or rx7 with the stock price of eclipse gsx... gsx is cheaper and with little money it will beat both the cars... any comments?
PS dayna240sx :- u were rude in the first place... u got bashed... u can't accept defeat... so u started this thread... :D

Sorry mate, but the fastest drag RX7 I know of is 6.99 seconds- faster than any Eclipse. There are also a few 7 second RX7's.
But you can't trash a 13B and have it respect you in return- if you overheat it you're going to be poor.
Eclipse??? I don't know- they were left strictly for the US Market- but they sound OK, 'cept for the Crankwalk.
So I'll take the WRX.

Modifications are an unfair assessment. If you put the same mods in an Eclipse as a WRX, the subaru will come out top. If you are comparing price vs performance, well, the eclipse wins. *BUT* keep in mind that the eclipse is an old car (the '95 being almost a decade old now), while a WRX is fairly new.
Frankly, you *can't* compare the two.
To put things straight also, only a small percent of Eclipses suffer from crankwalk.

Have you actually driven either of the other 2?
One note is I competed directly in my stock WRX against a modified GSX at a pro-solo last year, He got me at the line, but after that, I accelerated faster, and believe it or not could out-brake him. (with my Hawk pads), by the end of the course i ended more than a second faster.
you want to tell me who got owned?
The guy in the GSX.

Yes, I have driven both a 96 Eagle Talon TSI AWD (the equivalent of a GSX) and a '02 WRX. I can agree that the WRX has much more balls. But, a new Eclipse GSX back when it was in the showroom was $22k, a new WRX is about $30k. My point is, these cars are mountains apart, in price and class.
Not all modified GSX's are the same anyways, just like not all modified WRX's are the same. Some GSX's can take Corvettes, some can't. This debate won't end unless you guys take it to the tracks; which I don't see happening anytime soon.
So drop it.

Actually according to MSN autos...
2003 WRX~
Base Retail Price (MSRP) $24,295
1999 GSX~
Base Retail Price (MSRP) $26,550
I paid $24,000 with a ton of options and only 7 miles on the car November of 2002...
I really dont think these cars are too much different in price or class. Why do you think they are?

gsx vs wrx....ive driven both cars, and i think that the wrx is the better car overall, but for straight line speed, i think they re about the same. the wrx seems better on highway rolling speeds, and the gsx seems a little easier to take off with less wheels spin, probably because it doesnt have that awd system like the wrx where most of its power is sent to the rear wheels, unless it slips. like the front wheels on the wrx kick in with more power when the rear wheels slips, while the gsx starts out with even amount of power to the front, and rear tires.

Mainly because WRX STi > GSX. It's not even close, straight line, when both are stock. The WRX will take it by several car lengths. It's like comparing a Hyundai Scoupe and an Evo because they're both turbocharged inline 4's. Oh, and the price I used was the one I saw at a dealership several years ago; it probably had 7k or some miles.
I've always wanted an Impreza, at any rate. IM me sometime, I'd love to hear about how you manage to remain a student and pay for a WRX. I'm a college student myself, and have problems paying insurance, let alone a new car. Heh. sn: MechaDestroyer0

AcesHigh> im pretty sure we re talking about the regular 227 hp wrx, not the sti. yea the sti is definately faster than the gsx stock, no doubt about that, and the regular wrx should beat the gsx both stock. i think the wrx gets somewhere around 14.5, and the gsx gets around 15.0 for the quarter.

wrx's are known as one of the best values for it's price. GSX is known for being cheap, but because it's reliability sux ass. It's known that DSM motors are headaches, if you plan to own one, you better be a mechanic unless you want to shed out your money on fixing it every week. Hell wrx are one of the few (actually only) imports that american muscle car freaks actually respect, which I'm surprised.
WRX is better, no question about that.

Actually the 4G63 engines found in DSM's and evo are legendary among 4 bangers for relaibility and ability to extract very high power levels.
The only 4G63 with issues was in the 2nd gen eclipse due to crank walk.
One big advantage of the 4G63 is the fact that it is a closed deck engine as oposed to the EJ20 in the WRX which is an open deck. Of course this advantage will only become realy noticed with very high power levels.
For moderate power gains both cars are very responsive to upgrades. Tuners like Buschur and Cobb are able to bring some very good gains from minor tweaks.
Stock for stock it is my opinion that the WRX is a superior car to the DSM however.
OH and BTW keep this thread clean and constructive. I don't care what arguments or fights broke out in other part of the forums. Don't bring that fight here.

Neutrino has a good point. If the debate were for stock vs. stock I would take the WRX. If the debate were over which is better to modify then I would take the DSM. However, in no way would I ever take the RX-7.

You have no authority to determine when a tread reached its life. if nobody has anything new to say it will just get pushed down the list. Posting BS in it will only bring it up.
Consider this the last warning. Post only matter related to the thread!!!

I guess the two cars that are more comparable here are the GSX and WRX b/c they're awd and single turbo. No one has said anything about looks. Personally, I think the WRX looks like a glorified neon with a hood scoop, and I much prefer the Eclipse's lines. But as far as performance goes, the DSM seems to respond much more quickly to mods for the price. I think Kevin Jewer's GSX shows what a well built DSM will do against a WRX that probably cost about the same amount of money overall...it is the top vid here:
http://www.posracing.net/videos.html
And I don't think he has spent $25000 total on his GSX yet...but I could be wrong...
