air filters

I have an '87 crx si stock and I'm not willing to put a bunch of money into it until I do a swap.
this may be a stupid question but is a cone K&N air filter any better then the box K&N filters? Any other ideas outside of these?

go with a cone cold air intake you can put your battery in the back of your car where the hatch is and free up a bunch of room for the cone

its will be no better if the engine is stock, when u start modding the enngine it will make some differance.
