Snow Worthiness

I'm very interested in purchasing a Lincoln LS. I recently drove a 01 with a V8 and was very impressed. I have reservations with the rear wheel drive and its capabilities in the snow. The dealership actually let me test drive the car for a few days. I fell in love with it other than the fact it got stuck in my driveway twice. I dismissed it in a hilly section but it actually spun on a perfectly flat area as well. The car was equiped with it's original Continental all season tires as it has only 20k. I was happy with the way the car handled in the snow other than in my driveway. Would I be making a mistake by purchasing this car living in Pittsburgh with all the hills or would snow tires retify my problem?

I do not have much experience with the LS, but recently test drove a V6/manual model with snow tires and no trac control,and had no issues whatsoever. And I live in West Michigan, where we had just gotten hammered with almost 2 feet of snow in the preceding 4-5 days. That said, I do not live in an exceptionally hilly area. But I did purposely find the slipperiest snow covered streets possible to give it a workout on the crud, and came away impressed with its limits, and especially its predictability.

I have no reservations about buying one now as a result.

After hearing/reading numerous complaints, I think that snow tires make all the diff in the world.

Stock tires suck on snow, but they weren't designed for that, they're a dry/wet pavement tire.

Get some snows, and you'll love the LS on snow.

But don't get IN snow, they're very low to the ground, and get stuck when you get into drifts.

I've never winter driven in a more capable car than my LS.

The LS is a worthless POS in the snow with the stock tires. I held up traffic, got stuck multiple times, etc. I just put a set of Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22s on last week. The thing is a snow machine now. You will give any SUV a run for the money. Obviously up to a certain point, your not going to get through 1 foot of snow, but Ive driven with 4 or 5 inches on the road, and I plow through it. Acceleration off the line is awsome as well.

Try them out, you won't be sorry trust me.

I agree completely with the previous posts. The Lincoln LS is an awesome car on slippery roads as long as you have a set of decent snow/ice tires. My 2001 LS with V6, manual trans, and advance trac is as good a car as I've ever driven in the snow. It accelerates, steers, and brakes like you wouldn't believe and I actually prefer it in the snow over my 4x4 Suburban. The tires I have on it at the present time are Goodyears (225-60/16 Ultragrip Ice) but I'm sure that any good brand of winter tire would do the job.

I live in Detroit and we get lots of snow here. Once it took me half an hour to get it to the tip of my driveway, and the morning after that it took me another half an hour to get it out. It was the V8 with the sport wheels. Oh yeah, the advance trac light was always flashing and i almost got stuck in the middle of the intersection. Thats the winter, but its a hell of a ride to drive in the summer.
