Adding factory security alarm to 97 GP?

I am contemplating adding factory alarm to my car, and was wondering if anyone had done this.
My car is currently equipped with the option AU0, which includes the factory remote keyless entry.

I checked, and it seems that the BCM (Body Control Module) is different and there is a different switch in the door locks to handle the enabling/disabling of the alarm.

Typicaly GM puts in the harness that will handle most of the accesories, and then installs the ordered ones only. I have checked in the door, and there are several unused connectors in there.

I looked into the GM VSC3000, but it requires cutting a bunch of wires, and I don't want to go there.

Does anyone know if it is doable, and what other components are needed?

Thanks for any assistance anyone can give me in this subject.

The VSC unit is made by the best alarm company in the US, Directed Electronics. You would be better off going to a cert. alarm shop. The factory alarms aren't worth squat. Look at how many people are on here trying to disarm their factory alarms!!! I'd personally look into Python, Viper, Sidewinder alarms. See if your dealer offers Automate. It is DEI's top of the line unit. DEI will even pay your deductable if your car gets stolen!!!

Thanks for the tip on the different systems.

I've just seen way to many cars become basket cases, or electronic nightmares after having an alarm system installed that required the cutting of wires.

Yeah well I've seen cars become nightmares for simple routine maintenance items being performed. It all depends on the installer and equipment used just like anything.

Thanks ponchonutty,

I have purchased a VSC3300, and I'm contemplating it, but like I said earlier, if I can incorporate the factory alarm, I will probably do that, but more than likely, I will end up selling the system that I currenly have, the VSC3300.

Thanks

coindidence...i just had an alarm put in my gt gp yesterday! It works very well its an avital 4300 security/remote start i bought it at bestbuy and had it installed there also. It is made by directed also i think. Took them no time to install it and works excellent. not oversensitive and has very good range 1/5 mile i think
