I have a 98 jimmy. I recently installed and remote starter with a passlock bypass. It worked fine for a few days and then would'nt start. I might have had a bad bypass unit. I exchanged it and now my jimmy starts but when ever it's running the security light stay on(solid not flashing). I've tried what the remote starter tech told me to do, which was to leave the key on for 15 minutes and that did'nt do anything. Any suggestions about this problem would be helpful. :banghead: :1zhelp:[CODE][COLOR=magenta]

Well the PCM and BCM probally have diagnostic trouble codes relating to this problem.
I have seen my fair share of problems with remote starters..my suggestion..rip the piece of shit out, put the factory wiring back the way it was and leave it alone!!!!!!!!!

There is a dude on these boards that knows his stuff about these remote installations..I'll find his name and post it for you...he can answer your question better than I can.

Oh yea..if you want to post in color, hit the close all tags button before you post your reply..it will add color to your post and you won't see this..[COLOR=magenta]

Here I am Merlin. Thanks! Anyway, what I would do first is to hook it back up the way it was and then leave the key in the ignition and have the ignition on for 15min. WITHOUT shutting it off. That should reset the system and take you back to square one.

As far as bypass units for this truck, you do not need one. All there is a simple resistor that's used and can be bought at Radio Shack. The proper way to find this code is to go back to the VATS wires you hacked into. Cut one of the leads (doesn't matter which one) and meter accross the uncut wire and the one that's cut that travels back up to the ignition in the colum. What ever that is, that's the resistance the car needs to start. The other way to get this is to carefully do the same thing with the key itself on the black "chip" you see in the key. Be very carefull not to touch anything else when trying to read this.

If you indeed used some sort of bypass especially one with a way to vary the resistance, go up one or 2 points on the reistance. So, if the key reads 1,500ohms, go to 1,510 or something like that.

I will tell you that these VATS will all eventually fail. Mine did and many people have tracked me down to permanetly disable theirs because the proper fix is expensive and temporary. The way to bypass it is to simply take a resistor and permantly install it in the VATS wires that goto the ECM to make a complete loop.
