Ricer?!?!?!

Ok... this is a personal pet peeve of mine. The term "ricer" has been totally blown to hell. Since when is a guy with clean cutom body work, and a nice paint job a ricer? They sport a turbo and many engine modifications. Yet since they chose to change the exterior of the car as to stand out from the rest of the crowd, he is instantly a ricer.

Now it was my inderstanding that a "ricer" was someone who put on a muffler tip, and a "honda racing" stickers on his ford escort. The guy who has "NOS" on the side of his car yet has nothing but window tint and an ebay intake, is a ricer. Even to go as far as the guy who welded on an apc muffler and put some cheap adr rims and cut his springs. Now this type of thing, I could understand gaining the title "ricer"

So, when someone with a modified engine is curious about doing some custom body work and perhaps a wild paint job, where does the rice come from? Why must everyone completely despise anyone who likes body kits? Since when does custom = rice? Why, when someone asks a simple question on installing a body kit, or even purchasing one, does everyone jump onto the "ricer bandwagon" and start hating on the guy?

Now that I've vented, I would like your explanation of the term "ricer". What do you feel dictates the title of "ricer". Personally, I don't care... I will gladly accept the title. BUT... I am very curious as to the general concensus of the line between tuner and ricer. Please help... it's getting very agrivating.

You hit the nail on the head in my mind, tuner. I respect people who put in money and effort into thier import cars. Rice is every where, from stangs to maros on the domestic side. Don't get discoruged and just do your thing.

hey ebay parts may be cheap but doesnt mean he is a ricer.. plus wats wrong with adr wheels... not all have the money to buy 1000 dollar wheels from the store... the meaning of ricer is simple... A GUY WHO'S CAR LOOKS FAST BUT IS NOT FAST... STILL HE TALKS TRASH ABT OTHER PEOPLE'S CAR ON HOW HE CAN SMOKE THEM AND SHIT... it doesnt mean that guys who all shop in ebay are all ricers... and also it does not mean that guys who buy cheap performance stuffs are called ricers... it all depends on how heavy their pocket is....it all starts when the cheap performance guy talks trash abt how he can race them all and how good his car is...

my gripe wasn't really about parts, it was more about the fact that when someone modifies the exterior, he is a ricer, no matter how expensive the parts or who they're made by. The companies I listed were simply ones that popped into my head. I simply wanna know why body kit = rice. Even if he has the speed to back it up.

Different people have different taste. Some may see it as "rice", some may see it okay. People just have different point of views. To me (maybe others too) "A RICER IS A GUY AND HIS CAR WHO LOOKS FAST BUT RUNS SLOW AS HELL...WITH APC MUFFLERS AND ALTEZZA TAILS"...thats my "OPINION" and everybody else is entitled to thier own.

Maybe this could spice it up...

Rice=all show trying to make people think his car is a burner. Putting performance stickers on their car when they don't have a single piece of said equipment in the engine compartment.

lol i like these two... perfect for a ricer...a guy is a ricer if ..... 1) if you can fit fist fuck your exhaust tip..... 2)drive around in a $20,000 import with $10,000 in mods.. and still live with your parents. :D

^^^^^^ true true :smokin:

There is nothing wrong with power mods, n then doin some paint n interior work. Ta me a ricer is someone who is all show. If you put 40k into a civic for the looks your a moron (if you could)....After all power mods, id like ta do body, paint, interior lights, n underbody neon kits!

How bout this, like all the people i hate, err...dislike, there parents buy em evo's or wrx's, i know one kid with a rx7 (ARG!) n they throw on exhaust tips or maby cat-backs, n say there fast. N everyone believs them! UGH! it makes me so angry! I need ta break into 12's fast, lol.

I think ricer's are people who talk all day about cars and still haven't learned a thing. Also a ricer is someone who buys the first car that they see and puts a muffler tip on it with an AEM sticker. I also think that rice could be just a phase for some, while others never grow out of it.
If a person gets parts off of ebay, then it doesn't necessarily make them a ricer. There are good parts on ebay, but there are more no-name sh*t parts.
Some people just haven't been blessed with the money for a sick car, but if you try hard and work with what you got, then I give props.
People with show cars ARE NOT RICERS! Some folks decide to enter into competitions and win money for the way their cars look. Speed is for some while looks are for others. As for me, I want to look good while driving fast.
Also, this is what I do import2nr99. Anyone with something negative to say, I say "FUCK 'EM!":thefinger It's your car, not theirs and if they don't like it then they're worthless to life.

I think a lot of people hate on imports period. I think its great, personally, to see import vs. domestic arguments just to see the creativity and hard work people put into both. If you own either, your going to stick up for what you are representing. So its a win/win situation for both sides to get the most out of each other, be it you own a supra or camaro, stang vs. s2000. Just my two cents on a good rivalry.

My definition of a ricer: One who makes a car all show and no go. That's it. Nothing else.

EX: An Eclipse RS owner slapping on a body kit, aluminum spoiler, and giant exhaust tip. Maybe he's just trying to make his car look nice, that's totally cool. He's still a ricer. He hasn't tried to be faster.

EX: A Honda Civic owner taking his LX sticker off and replacing it with a VTEC decal. He puts a giant carbon fiber spoiler on, and stickers all over his car. He's a ricer.

There are different kinds of rice, some well thought out and pleasing to the eyes, and some simply hideous.

The point is, all the hate on ricing is undeserved. Yes, they are trying to make a car look fast when it's not. Yes, some of their cars are atrocities to mankind. And yeah, they think their car's fast but it's not. So put them in their place at that next stop light.

A car belongs to the person who drives it, and the owner can do whatever the hell he wants with it. Make it look nice, make it look ugly, make it look like something it's not; whatever.

Now, fast cars... this is what I like about driving around. People call you a ricer and you just bolt off into the distance. So what if your car looks like something from F&F, if it can take that Corvette next to you, then who cares. If it is that fast, then it's not a riced out car. Even if you have a Honda Civic LX, if you dropped a turbo with a large intercooler, tuning everything properly and are running 9's... well, frankly, you're not a ricer.

But I must apologize, show cars are rice cars...

All of you are a bunch of ricers. Get over it. "IT" is a trend that means a lot of things, usually pertains to japanese originated car accessories and aftermarket parts.

Meh, it's old, who cares. I think alot of people are maturing into a post-Rice era. Alot of people were sucked into the racing scene by the Fast and the Furious, and did what they saw in the movie. But after a few years many of these people have done enough research to be pulled out of that 'ricer' mindset.

I think it's great that F&F pulled so many people into the scene, and now in its aftermath we *do* have alot of new competent racers.

very true

when i turned 16, i was always checking out nice cars, BMW, Benz, ect. After seeing some other cars (tuner cars) and how they were built, n there insane speed, i decided ta check out f&f. Its what got me into tuner cars, but not the rice mindset. I put alot of thought into it before doing anything, n realized, its kinda stupid ta have a lime green daily driver with a blitz body kit n blah blah blah.

i live in an area with probably the highest rice/fast car ratio in the world, the San Fernando Valley, aka 'The Valley'. let me tell you, every body has a civic and they all think they are fast. like dropped on stock rims and PLASTIC hubcaps. single gauge pod with an autometer fuel/air. so many gauges/lights they look like a UFO on the freeway at night. wings that would make the discovery channel jealous. i even saw an Si-R sticker on an eclipse. cars that sound like one of those "party 'roll-out-and-hit-you-in-the-eye' blower buzzer" things got thrown into a lawnmower on crack. also there are a lot of , i'll just call them 'unsavory', types that follow around loud and tricked-out looking cars back to whereever they go and jack the shit out of them. and what's real funny is the cops really target these cars now. a couple of kids just got killed at a local race spot [happens at least twice a year in the same spot, great place and is secluded, but shit happens] so the cops are really pissed now. and with new race laws that can get your shit SIEZED, not impounded, you think the trend would end and you would see a decline in the ever present 'rice', tward a more sleeper style, but you need to have a fast car to be a sleeper. i'm still on the t-25 and i smoke like 95% of the guy's i see at the light. i can be going to get cigg's and get into a race. kids just drive around and race people. it's like a friggin pastime around here. even if the other guy is in his mom's car. a guy in a focus tried to race me this weekend. don;t get me wrong, there are some fast cars out here. but most of them say things like BMW, AMG, Ferarri, ans Audi on the back, although i did get smoked by the most POS crx i ever seen [and it sounded like a rocket ship, not a lawn mower. i was messin with him cuz the exaust looked bigger than the car. turned out it really had a function!!!]. i take pride in my car. i paid cash for it and everything in it. i think that some mods i have are a bit ricey [indiglo gauges, a/f ratio gauge [just fillin a hole until i get the EGT], 7500k headlights and blue interior floor lights to name a few]. i don't care what anyone else thinks, it's my car and i'm having fun with it. in some peoples minds, 'any part installed that does not increase HP or push Torque higher up the RPM is rice'. or, if it has anything more than Kevin's [95gsxRacer] car it's rice. i want to get a light bar and a different wing like a GT-R and a Buddy Club 2 front bumper and sideskirts and a GT-R rear bumper. i think it looks solid. i also want to push over 400whp. i guess all i'm trying to say is this: if somebody calls you rice and it gets you heated, you might be a ricer.

:iagree: I really dont care if anyone calls me a ricer, and if they want to race, bring them on cause i will probally lose :) , but you know what i dont care.

As for people that talk shit about everyone and their cars, and then their car is a POS to being with, well... they just need to die

I admit to being one of those people who started out as a ricer. I had a non turbo gs. I had a 300zx, and lost my license, so my need for speed had to be curbed. So I went all show, and no go. But since then, I sold the gs, and got a gst. It's nothing spectacular... yet. But I don't claim it to be.I just find it frustrating that everyone finds exterior modifications rice.

i'm saying if you get pissed off and all set-off if somebody calls you a ricer, you might just be one. it's not just a river in egypt [you know, de-nile]. the truth is that name calling is lame and if it hurts somebody that bad, it is probably their own shortfalls and self disapointment because they know that the GReddy sticker really didn't give them 10hp like they have been embelishing ever since they put the sticker on. and they really know that the wing on the back really just adds weight and looks shiny. so it's not somebody calling out 'ricer' that hurts. it's knowing that your ego is writing checks your ride can't cash.
