im new to the supra scene and was wondering if there were any model years to be avoided. im looking into an early pre 86 supra because i like the look of the more edgy body. the 86 and up mk3's just look kinda bloated to me. plans for the car include a jspec 7mgte swap, upgraded injectors and a bigger turbo (probably the hks or greddy kit). my goal is to lighten it up and make lots of power, but i need somewhere to start. help me please

Good plan man, 86.5 is when the MKII stopped and the MKIII started. You really won't have to do much lightening to the MKII though since it's plently light as is. The 7m swap is pretty straight foward, everything is bolt in for the most part. If you want a MKII then you'll most likely want a P-type (performance), it's the Supra with the fender flairs and the spoiler, the L-type (luxury) has leather, some had a digidash, and a few other things I can't remember right now. Other than the P/L-type all years are pretty much the same if you plan on extensively modding the car. If you don't plan on going with a standalone setup then you'd probably be happy with the Lexus AFM/550 injector setup for fuel/air. If you upgrade the turbo outside of the ct-26 housing then you'll need an adapter or a new manifold for it. Just as a coincidence I will be selling new tubular manifolds very soon, heres the post with all the details if your interested, it could save you a few bucks as opposed to buying a "kit", by buying the parts seperately..

Good luck on the project, I never get tired or seeing 7m powered MKII's.

I'd say the rear end will be your weakest point after you swap in the 7M and R-154, but that won't become a problem till your putting down some huge numbers.

so until 500+ it isnt going to be a concern. on a side note, what would be the complexity level of a 1jz into an mk2. just in case i really feel like putting down some numbers.

I don't know the exact numbers for the rear end, but I would imadgine since the car was designed for 150hp daily on the drivetrain then it wouldn't handle too much over 500. I do know there are a few drag MKII's though pushing some very big numbers, I have no idea what's been done to the drivetrain/suspension though. As for the complexity of the 1jz swap if you have to ask then it's very complex, you'll have to fab motor mounts since with the 7m MKII swap you use the 5m/6m mounts, the 1jz uses different motor mounts so using the 5m/6m mounts won't work. Also I would imadgine wiring could be a problem, all in all I would say it's not worth the effort required unless you just want 650+ HP, anything in that area and below and the 7m will be just fine if built and tuned properly.

7mgte in a mkII supra is very easy. The stock rear and trans hold up fine to 400+whp.Biggest concern,to most anyway,is wiring the engine to the car.For more info, check out CS.COM forums. There is a wealth of knowledge on that site.
8 conversions have been done in my personal garage, and several sub-harness' for others are on the bench as I type

:nono: Any Toyota auto with the word Supra in it is "the real Supra", just because it's older doesn't make it any less of a Supra, with alittle bit of skill and alittle bit of money it can be made to handle and drive faster than any other. Why did you dig up a thread that has been dead and answered for over two months by the way??
