i am getting sick of dudes in my area thinkin my car is slow b/c i got an ls swap...its not the fastest car or anything but i have not been beaten by any unswapped hondas(cept s2000...duh..)...i owned a 03 si ..nuts even with a rsx s (hooked up too..),nuts even with a prelude sh....owned a hooked up 99 si...i dont really think my car is the shit but you def dont need a vtec swap to run high 14's ...and on another post a dude with b18a1 in a 91 hatch was talkin about racin a rsx (did not specifytype s or not) and if it was not he would def beat them bad..if it was a type s then it would be even...and he would pull a little on low end probally...

a gsr hatch and a internally built Teg gsr the gsr the teg pulled sooo hard he had alot of motor work done and the gsr hatch only got me by half a car but i had a d16 ecu at that time

1st ive seen him run at the track when he had his single cam he pulled a nice time for it
2nd we went from a roll twice i pulled on him almost immediately

i did not mean to start this whole to have vtec or not to have vtec battle....i wish i buckled down and dropped more money and had a integra type r motor under my hood....but my ls motor will have to do...it puts a smile on my face every time i punch it..im bout to back up the dude with a ls in his 91 hatch..i raced a b16hatch on the highway not too long back and i beat him...only by like 1.5 -2 cars...also i raced a gsr hatch and got my ass handed to me..he beat me by like 2 cars..by mid third gear............
i think vtec is the shit...but not havin it sure as hell does not make your car slow........

yeah well Chuckhatch ur car should be a bit quicker in the low-midrange punch since most of the power is tuned to peak down low, unlike my lude which is tune to peak at 7200 rpms
my power isn't even worth mentioning at below 5250 rpms, b4 VTEC engagement, but on a highway high speed battle a similiarly powered car with the same weight as urs with VTEC will beat u, but like wise u have the advantage form a stop or roll at lower speeds ie: below 30mph starts

VTEC is really overhyped... People make it out to be more then it is... not to downplay it at all. Its ingenious in every way... an engineering marvel, really. Anyways, this guy has 98-99 civic ex, and wants to put in an B16. Should I tell/recommend him putting the LS in instead?

ummm, i like my vtec, but the spec v, vr6, 1.8t, volvo 1.9t, and others, i dont know if they could read my little badge from where i was, i dont think its overhyped that much, i mean any 1.8 na, basically stock engine that can take such an array of engines from 2.8's to turbos, that are 7 years newer than it, ummmm thats pretty darn good, tell your buddy to drop a jdm b16 in there, its got 170 hp and something like an 8400 redline , mmmmmm vtec

no.....tell him to ls or gsr or integra type r ...b16 are weak....its a tight motor but hell be runnin 15's ...a buddy of mine has 98 civic dx fully gutted i/h/e and his shit ran a best of 15 flat....and zack vtec....i dont see you beaten a godd damm 2.8 turbo audi those are fast as shit ...your b16 might have 170 hp but its only got 106 lbs of torque...not a very good ratio...and yes i have beaten vr6 gti's and 1.8's turbo with my ls hatch..along with many hondas...so there

yeah about that, i have a b18c1, it has 170 hp and 128 tq, what engine was in the dx, cause if it was the stock one that comes with that car he wasnt running anything near 15 flat, and btw chucky are the only things done to you car a swap and an exhaust? cause in that case you have not rolled even with an rsx-s and you do not beat 1.8t's and gti vr6s, unless they were automatic/not racing, 15.2 let me see that slip, i wont believe it for now, unless i see the slip

its all about power to weight, anyone remember the past issue of sport compact car where they had 4 hatches? 2 4g's and 2 5g's? one of the 4g's had a 150hp at the wheels and he ran high 12's.....hp isnt everything the other 4g had a gsr turbo with full interior and he was running 13's..

There was another one where they put a stock(i believe) type r engine into a little lotus elise and they ran it against an SVT Cobra(I'm pretty sure), and the elise was able to beat him in the 1/4. I'll double check all this though... just to be sure.

ok, i agree with boost is better than vtec in some ways, but vtec was made for economy as well as speed, so id say it works pretty good for what it was meant to do, btw write honda and tell them so they will stop using it

there is no need to hate on v-tec's, the truth is, if u had the money for a gsr motor, u would have gotten that instead of an ls for you crx. Not that an ls cant be fast, but if you put the same work into a v-tec motor, your going to get better gains, its a proven fact. I have a 1.6 DOHC v-tec from a integras xsi with lsd in an 88 civic hatch. I raced a worked ls in a 89 4-door completly stripped and it had drag radials and a worked suspension. All I have is intake, exhaust, clutch + flywheel and absolutly no suspension work. We race a couple of times and he would only stay with me low end, and as soon as I hit v-tec, I would pull. We even raced from a roll in low 2nd and he had a head start and I caught him by high third gear, then I was toying with him in 4th, with just 111 ft/lbs of torque. All horsepower all due to ---------> v-tec
